The US abstained from that vote, the one where Israel proudly declared Jerusalem as its eternal capital.
The only reason most countries pulled out their embassies from Jerusalem and relocated to Tel Aviv is due to pressure from oil-rich Gulf states. The Western world didn't want another gas crisis on its hands.
Since Israel sees Jerusalem as its capital, and most of its governmental facilities are based there, it is the capital of Israel. You don't have to recognize it, but then again groups like Hamas don't even recognize Israel's right to exist. On the other hand, slained Egyptian president Anwar Sadat came and gave a speech at the Knesset in 1977. |
Israel can have Jerusalem as their capital, but, not at the expense of Palestinians. The Palestinians aren't just going to lay down and die, so extremist Jewish settlers can slowly take their land, and build walls to consolidate their land grabs. Nobody wakes up one day and decides, "Oh those damn Jews, I'm going to blow myself up." These illegal settlements only stoke the tension.
