I got these when starting out last August, a mate of mine who DJ's said they'd be really good and it was bit of a bargain about £450. He'd done the same with my other mate as well....

My other mate now has cdj1000's with a djm800 and I'm after them as well. Wish I was a bit more patient and got something much better than these in all honesty.

Best thing to do with equipment is get the best gear. Cheap products really do get cheap results.

Completely untrue. I've made cheap stuff work as a good or better than the best stuff. Just because it says Pioneer, doesn't mean a thing. I've had Pioneer stuff fail on me. Everything can fail no matter the price tag.

FFS - if you want to talk like a bunch of twelve year olds, do it in the COR.

I have to disagree in part with this. Actually, like the Technics vinyl decks which just 'felt right', the Pioneer CDJs hit the nail on the head with their ease of use and functionality.

On paper the Technics SLDZ1200s looked like they would take the place as the industry standard CD decks, but in practise they were poorly designed and lacked key functionality.

That's not to say that you can't get good results with cheaper products, and it's fair to say that resale value is higher with the higher end stuff.

is it 500gbp for both decks, the mixer, and the headphones? what is that, like 700USD? i'd say if you're a beginner.. it depends on what the pitch resolution is. if it's .05 or .02 (both of which i severely doubt) then i say go for it. sure, it's gemini, but it'll get the job done. especially if that big fancy jog wheel actually has scratch/cue function similar to the pio cdj's. it looks like it from the picture, at least. don't treat your hardware like shit and they'll stay together longer.

don't go for the s1000's. i used to own a pair- they do get the job done, and are built like tanks, but the jog wheel feels like a toy and they're ugly as sin. of course, most importantly you will want to upgrade very quickly once you get accustomed to them, so you're in essence throwing away that 500 bucks or whatever on the pair for no reason. the pitch resolution is the biggest deal breaker for me there as well; .1 :P
