three valid points why 7 > XP and you have me convinced:

1.
2.
3.

i'm listening

is it faster? is it easier to use? and finally - are the new features worth the extra system resources?

over vista it's a huge improvement. Over xp, it'll take time for me to get used to it, i have win7 on my lappy and xp pro on my desktop which i've not used for a while now.

1- tabbed everything. It's easy to switch between and keeps the taskbar decluttered. You want a browser window? all in one place.

2- the split screen thing is pretty neat when you're just doing 2 things like 2 msn convos. No faffing around

3- it's not vista

Either way I'm betting it's your isp mike. Who are you with? Most are throttling and be careful cos there's tons of port monitoring going on now, i got an email from my previous one over a file. It's going to get even worse soon imo with the new laws they wanna bring in.

Speeds are not related to using XP or win7/vista...it's in the settings of your torrent tracker. Make sure u don't have speeds capped at 30...especially check your upload settings. Keep your uploads low since that affects your down substantially.

amount of seeders (their connection) is also another factor

imo that's not even close to being worth upgrading to a completely new OS (imo!)

Win 7 has all the cool parts of Vista, without all the problems of Vista. It is the fastest most stable windows yet. No need to upgrade, if u are happy with what u have then there is no reason. If u want to have the latest and greatest and are a geek that wants the new cooler features then get it. You won't be disappointed.

don't mean to start a holy war but:
- by "faster" we mean one OS outperforming another OS on the exact same machine. are you saying that 7 requires LESS system resources?
- what is "cool" in a system of purely functional essence? when i think of an operation system, i think of speed and useful features. if it's slower and less or equally useful, then fuck it

Re: Torrent Download Speeds

Which ISP? 60KB/s and 30KB/s are common thresholds for bandwidth throttling...

The window management improvements for Win 7 make it worth the upgrade IMO.

Win 7 does need a much more powerful machine to run it compared to XP. If you're on an older machine then stick with XP for sure. Comparing the 2 on a new build...Win 7 is faster.

The fact of the matter is I have Windows XP. I don't have Windows 7. Recommending an alternative O/S when I'm asking for help on a different one is as unhelpful and ignorant as it is annoying. I've been using Windows 7 for a year now. I know the benefits. When I'm ready to pay for it I will. But for now I want to troubleshoot the problem I'm having on my current setup.

There are a few 4226 IDs in my event viewer but I don't think it happens frequently enough for this to be the problem. But it's worth a shot. I'll change my TCP connection limit and see if it helps. Cheers.

Well be that as it may that IS the case here. 1 week ago I was getting 60k/s on Windows 7. Immediately after going back to XP I'm getting 30k/s. My upload settings in my torrent tracker are low and my download speeds uncapped.

By the way my ISP is Pipex. But, I don't see why bandwidth throttling would be an issue on one O/S and not another.

it's not the OS....it's either your isp or torrent software u are using. Can u d/l a file somewhere else at the faster speed?
