"Forget economic reality, I want me benefits"
-John Q. Democrat
History was indeed made today... for the first time in U.S. history, major legislation was passed that undermined a vast majority of the people's wishes. 234 years as a representative republic is over- and I'm not being melodramatic; those Americans on here that believe it's fine for the politicians that WE elect to not actually represent those who elected them... well, you know the rest. This is what you voted for; all these comments are from the last few days:
| quote: | | OBAMA: "I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the procedural rules are in the House or Senate." |
| quote: | Democrat Congressman (and impeached judge) Alcee Hastings:
There ain't no rules around here, we're trying to accomplish something. And therefore, when the deal goes down, all this talk about rules, we make them up as we go along. |
| quote: | Democrat Rep. Tom Perriello of Virginia:
The only way to get Congress to balance a budget is to give them no choice; If you don't tie our hands, we will keep stealing. |
| quote: | | Nancy Pelosi: We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it. |
But it's for our own good... what do we know? Mark Steyn sums it up best:
| quote: | | We hard-hearted small-government guys are often damned as selfish types who care nothing for the general welfare. But, as the Greek protests make plain, nothing makes an individual more selfish than the socially equitable communitarianism of big government: Once a chap's enjoying the fruits of government health care, government-paid vacation, government-funded early retirement, and all the rest, he couldn't give a hoot about the general societal interest; he's got his, and to hell with everyone else. People's sense of entitlement endures long after the entitlement has ceased to make sense. |
