FACT: in nottingham, theres 4 girls to every 1 bloke.

any other comments needed?

my brother went to nottingham trent, iuts a very good uni, and nottingham is a wicked city, not only is it full of birds and quality pubs & shops, but its only an hour and a half from most the big clubs! GK in bham, GC in sheff, passion in leicester.. etc etc

but, if u go to nottingham trent... DONT move into an area called 'the meadows'... its like moss-side now.. full of guns and crime aaaaaah

It sounds like Nottingham is by far the better school. The bad thing about my school right now is that it is placed in the country. Its good if you like the "nature" scene and its always good whenever the school wants to build new buildings because there is enough land everywhere. The weather is great here, there is no crime, and you can always go camping in the woods or go hiking all you want. Unfortunately, I was raised in the innercity all my life so non of this really matters to me. Since the engineering program here has a high reputation, I figured 4 years in the country wouldnt be so bad but I was wrong. There are no clubs here, just bars, and a lot of rednecks. Everyone here listens to Dave Matthews Band and mostly rap (rap I can listen to), but the country music is awful.
Anyway, so that is why I wanna get out of here for a semester or two and I think Nottingham is a go.

Now, the REAL problem arises. If anyone has any advice for an American like me as to where to live, culture, habits what to do and what not to do in the UK, please share. Only time Ive been to the UK is when we had to stop at Heathrow on our way to Amsterdam

Thanks again to everyone for the help.

tips

where to live: in nottingham theres lots of privatly owned student accomodation in the west bridgford area, and its a nice area with big old houses.. and not too expensive quality pub near by and its a 15 min walk from the city centre. in case u have a problem finding the area, just ask someone to direct you to the nottigham forest football ground, coz thats where it is.

culture and habits: learn sarcasm learn to drink proper beer (i.e. not so chilled bitter) dont pick your nose, or bite your nails. sleepwalking is fun though...

hope this helps
