I switched from using Cubase for almost 20 years. Never looked back once.

LOL, I hate Ableton so much.

[Now audio export fails to work at random times.]

Really tempted to get Studio One.

Go for it. It freed me from a shit load of mouse clicking and technical, non-creative stuff.

It's stable as a mother and creative flow is no longer inhibited by sub-menu in sub-menu in sub-menu. Drag and drop baby!

Try the demo - it's a full 30-day trial and the only limitation is that Save is disabled. If you watch a few of the videos and read through the quickstart guide you'll be making music in no time. One really cool feature of S1 is the Project view, which is a very cool mastering environment. You can actually set up a CD-ready project in this, and if you decide to go back and make changes to any of your tracks, the master project automatically gets updated without having to re-export the .wavs.

One of the other really cool features of S1 is the Control Link. It automatically maps all of your hardware controllers' CCs. You just open the windows, hit MIDI learn, and start adjusting the controls on your hardware controller. As you do this, each one appears on the screen as a knob with the CC number. You can rename each control to match the parameter name on your controller, and change the controller type (i.e., knob, slider, switch) in the Control Link interface to match your hardware. Then, you can very easily map each of your hardware controllers to every soft synth/effect by just tweaking the hardware controller and software parameter that you want it to control, hit the Link button, and it's locked in for every instance of that same plugin until you change it (yes, even new projects). It blows Novation's AutoMap away IMO because it doesn't require duplicate wrapped .dlls for every synth and, unlike Novation's, this one is stable and not buggy. It's very quick and easy to do - I mapped my Virus' controllers to a few dozen synths and effects plugins in less than an hour and now every time I open one of those synths, my Virus' filter cutoff is routed to the synth's filter control, PWM is routed to the softsynth's PWM, etc.

The only bad news I've discovered so far is that my AlphaTrack doesn't work with S1 and Frontier Designs apparently has no plans to support it at this time. So, I purchased a PreSonus FaderPort (if you don't know me by now, I hate feeling tethered to a mouse when creating music). I like the AlphaTrack much better and it has more features (e.g., the ability to control plugins). Oh well...

All this talk has me curious. They sure make you go through a lot of hoops just to get to the demo for download. Going to check it out here in a little bit.

I tried it already and liked it, as noted above.

OMFG - You're almost making me feel badly for pulling the trigger on Sonar! That was actually a pipe-dream element of my ideal, super-cool, futuristic DAW I wrote about in a blog post a while back.

For anyone thinking about getting Studio One, Gearslutz had an enormous thread about it that might be helpful:

Tried the demo for a couple of days, really really impressed. Considering switching from Logic.
