He's still doin' a heckuva job! Sounds like his office is the equivalent of a FEMA for what they are charged with doing for this kind of incident.

In all honesty, it's a bad situation that we need to get under control fast because we need to have safe access to the GOM energy resources and this is a huge step backwards. I read an article this morning talking about taking poodle hair and human hair to make make-shift absorbent booms...Another guy told me the latest strategy may involve throwing tons of hay on the slick and then trying to blow it into more concentrated pools. I do admire the creativity, I just hope there is some success in stopping the spill at the source with the biodome.

Fuck me if the hillbillies aren't gonna save the world. Impressive demo and much better than spraying 300,000 gallons of "proprietary" chemicals into the GOM.

This is such a manufactured controversy.

Ok then, correct me please. Who is in charge here and why did that guy's name get so much attention? Is Obama in charge? Is FEMA in charge? Is Exxon in charge? The Coast Guard?

So let me get this straight. It's pretty much obvious that a huge overseas oil company has caused countless damage to the Gulf, and yet you want to blame it on Obama or any of his appointees? Sounds like you're the one doing a heckuva job buddeh.

Oh I think I have it pretty straight actually. Nothing in this fucked up country ever changes. And oh look! You repubs want to side with big oil AGAIN.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_...333-503544.html

quote:
GOP Blocks Oil Spill Liability Bill
Republicans for the second time blocked legislation that would increase oil companies' liability for oil spill damages, setting off criticism from Democrats seeking to make BP pay for the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) on Tuesday blocked a bill Democrats have put forward to raise the liability cap from $75 million to $10 billion. He said on the Senate floor he agrees the cap should be raised, but the Senate should "wait and see where the cap should be."

"If you have it too high you are going to be singling out BP and the other four largest majors and the nationalized companies, such as China and Venezuela, and shutting out the independent producers," he said.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) blocked the legislation last week.

President Obama released a statement saying he is disappointed by the Republicans' objections.

"This maneuver threatens to leave taxpayers, rather than the oil companies, on the hook for future disasters like the BP oil spill," he said. "I urge the Senate Republicans to stop playing special interest politics and join in a bipartisan effort to protect taxpayers and demand accountability from the oil companies."

Roll Call reports that Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), one of the sponsors of the legislation, reportedly asked, "This is really about whose side do you stand on? Do you stand up with the taxpayers or with multibillion-dollar oil companies?"

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), another co-sponsor, similarly derided the GOP.

"What we're watching here is a sham," Lautenberg said, Politico reports. "We see our friends on the other side--correct that, the people on the other side... not friendly in this case, [and we want them] to stand up and say, 'Yeah. You did it? Pay for it.'"

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday that a $10 billion cap is inadequate.

But you know what? I'm glad they're doing this. Their actions are going to deeply divide voters in the Southern states. They're basically going to be handing Congress over to the Dems this year. DRILL BABY DRILL!

Apparently the Coast Guard grounded some 125 ships working on cleanup after some people working on cleanup were getting sick from the oil dispersants and BP reps was preventing people from wearing respirators.

This looks like an interesting way to close up the leak

http://www.mediaite.com/online/in-l...ining-traction/

Now, while nuking the leak may at first sound pretty crazy, Russians did use nukes to close up gas leaks and had a fairly good 5/6 success rate. Considering the only real alternative is waiting for the secondary drill to be made sometime in August, this may in fact be a good solution.

All the other crap BP is supposedly trying is pointless and it's basically just PR stunts. The top kill operation dropped a 70 ton seal while it needed a 10 times bigger one in order to compensate for the pressure. And how they intended to seal up a bumpy surface with a flat seal is beyond me.

Plus they finally admitted the leak is 40k barrels. Which kinda makes sense since the platform itself was supposed to be pumping 25k barrels per day. Now if you cut in half a pipe that normally regulated transports 25k barrels, it's fair to assume that you're probably gonna be leaking at least 25k barrels.

So the only two real options now seem to be nuke or drill, one not excluding the other. Now I'm not really all for throwing nukes everywhere, but in this particular case I doubt there's much of an ecosystem left in the near vicinity of the leak that the nuke might harm.
