Years ago, a lot of British made sound gear used to be
pin 3 hot. Klark Teknik, Bss, Soundcraft, Midas, etc, all came this way (the mixing console outputs were pin 3, while the inputs were pin 2). While the American gear was pin 2. So there was always that pin 2, pin 3 issue. Some American sound companies started wiring their racks as a pin 3 hot. I dunno if there was a standard ever set, but from what you posted, it sounds like it's pin 2 now.

Older Crest amps, the professional series 6001, 7001, 8001, basically their entire 1000 lines were all Pin 3 hot. You could change it to a pin 2, with a flip of a jumper. But all the other Crest amps are pin 2 standard.

Also, some of Rane's older gear was wired with the ring as +, on a TRS connection.

Few things here - while katmaus is correct I think there's a few clarifications to be made here.

Firstly Nelly, the 2 x TRS to 1 x TRS you have is a most probably a L/R split cable.

It's meant to take a stereo (L&R combined with common ground) and essentially split it in to two mono signals (1 x L and 1 x R).

Now if you try to use it for the other direction, it you're combining two mono signals in to a stereo signal which if balanced at the output stage will cause phase cancellation at your speaker.

You have to remember that your JBL eon is a mono device. It's one channel, not a stereo speaker as such.

So what you should do is have one channel going to each eon. But as you only have one, you need to mono sum the stereo signal.

The problem with your current cable is that if there is any difference in the two sides of the stereo signal(i.e. pan, interchannel delays etc.), the speaker won't be able to do both at once and you'll have all sorts of driving and phasing issues.

You could either use a box or small mixer to do this. This, in terms of quality is the best solution.

Your other option is sot solder a 1k resistor on the + of each TRS, then make the other end TRS combine the positives from each side and go to the tip, and the combined negatives go to the sleeve.

The problem with this is that it doesn't sound great, and you loose 6db of signal if the outputs from the mixer are balanced.

IMO, get a small mono sum box or buy another Eon.

My bad n3lly, I thought you had a 1 TRS to 2 TS y cable. That's when I originally thought insert cable.

What RANN said is probably your best option. Unless you add another eon. I'm sure you explained this already but, is the eon question a booth monitor?
