Little ma and pa shops don't keep the country running....its big business that does....I see no problem in trying to keep them happy.

If you can't record tv shows. Will they go after Bell and other service providers for selling PVRs?

It actually says that these will be allowed with the changes.

I guess your right, but there is probably some loop-hole to screw the consumer somewhere. Thats what Canada known for, loop-holes.

quote:
At the same time, the bill tries to soften the blow for consumers by legalizing commonplace but grey-area practices such as backing up the contents of a music CD, home recording of TV episodes for later viewing or copying legally acquired music to a digital player.

This trumps consumer rights and means, for instance, that allowances for Canadians to back up or duplicate copyrighted works for personal use disappear if a digital lock is present.

One thing is I am still sticking to downloading certain tv shows. Seeing the CRTC wont let networks buy the rights for Canada

+ 1. Also I think he's said somewhere that he honestly hasn't which is fine but what will you do if you need to back up your hardware/cds, dvds etc etc? The new laws apparently don't allow for it.

the new laws allow for you to backup purchased items such as dvds and cds.

Yep.

Also, so if you couldn't purchase it you've pirated it? So if you can't buy a show yet want to get into it because it just started how do you start to watch it? New shows that are fairly recent but don't have dvd's released.

TV doesn't really interest me enough that I would bother watching past shows just so I am up to date with what is going on. As for music....I prefer supporting the artist and would rather buy their music then steal it from them. Personally, I can't think of anything I want that badly that I can't afford to just buy instead of stealing it.
