i don't know about you guys, but i have a VAIO laptop that had 1 serious problem (the screen plug got accidentally disconnected from the main board) in the last 4 years. other than that, it runs real smooth, and doesn't overheat.

also currently have a HP laptop the past 3 months, and it's probably the quietest laptop i've ever had, and it's lightweight too. i have heard HP laptops were notorious for laptop problems, but i have heard they're a lot better the past couple of years.

They might be improving but for over a grand you should be looking at Vaios and Macs (I never owned an Asus)

Battery Life: 10 Hours (company numbers)

HP:
Battery Life: 5.75 Hours (company numbers)
Weight: 5.19 lbs

Alienware:
Battery Life: 2 - 2.5 Hours (Couldn't find official numbers)
Weight: 9 lbs

Asus:
Battery: Had a hard time finding numbers, seems to be 1 - 1.5 hours
Weight: 7.26 lbs.

Does anyone have any tips for extending battery life? All my electronics are great at first, but after a while the batteries become shit. Is it because I keep recharging them even though they aren't drained 100%?

i know for a fact that you "kill" the battery if it's always plugged in and charging

depends on the type (NiCad, Li-Ion, etc.) of battery. Google is your friend.
