Because they're more convenient/light/take little space?
I have a pair of Koss earbuds. Not awesome, but I mostly use them while on the bus/plane etc.

I bought my Beats by Dre Solos so I could do this. They fold up great, with a carrying case, and aren't too big to wear in public.

I don't listen to music in public because I hate having to drown out the ambient noise by cranking up the volume.

But if I were going to, I would have no problem wearing large headphones. What's so "douchey" about wearing them in public, anyway?
