The only forums I visit regularly are TA, KVR, and Gearslutz. KVR is great for keeping up on the latest news regarding anything in the software world. I think the problem with GS is that it's trying to be something that it isn't. It was always a forum for hardcore gear snobs, but it is trying to grow into all things to all musicians/producers. I think that when you step back and consider that it is a site that was founded by and still largely dominated by guys who simply love hardware gear, it's easier to accept the snobbery (to an extent). One of the other issues that it faces is that far too many people who bought their first piece of hardware suddenly decide that they're the all-knowing authority on everything hardware-related, turn into hardware snobs, etc. and they start spreading way too much misinformation. I've seen that happen far too often over the past few years. But, there are some very knowledgeable people there - the problem is that many people don't know who's who.
As far as other forums go, I used to frequent the Cakewalk forums a lot and they had some very good discussions from very knowledgeable people. Not a whole lot of EDM talk going on there, but there were always good in-depth discussions of music production going on. But, in recent years, it's been overrun by fanboys having flamewars with those who just want to bitch and moan about any little thing that they don't like about Sonar. But some of the other forums (e.g., Hardware, Instruments) have some good threads.
