heres what i would do.

Id drop most drinking laws in ontario. You can drink in public, no last call etc. Also would mandate all night transit service on weekends.

In exchange there would be 0 tolerance for everyone for drinking and driving.

its time to start treating adults like adults. Im sick of the mcguinty nanny state

honestly, north americans would destroy anything and everything if that happened. they dont know how to control themselves. its not like europe. drink anywhere, no last call... few empty bottles here and there but they have way more control of themselves than we do here.

im not one to be a complete mess when intoxicated because its not in my personality... but those people in the vip booth pouring the vodka in each others mouths for fun are probably the people whom you dont want to see your rule apply.

Exactly, how do you ban people age 18-21 from having a drink when everyone else is allowed 0.08%? They don't think 'older children' are responsible for controlling their alcohol levels, yet they are allowed to vote which is one of the most powerful right as an adult citizen.

thats what they said when the topless law came in back in the 90s. Ontarians are going to abuse it and it will be mayhem. Europeans are more controlled etc etc. And they were right. For about 6 months! And now how often do you see toplessness?

Its amazing how making something "taboo" actually encourages it.

exactly how? By voting for dalton i guess! Mcguinty loves to twist the law to make it fit into his authoritarian ideals.

ya but going topless and exposing your body is something girls would hesitate first before cracking a beer open in the middle of dundas square. north american are animals man, we can't seem to know our limits. they were brought up that way... so its different.

and if your law was to be legal, getting into a car after 1 or two beers is really tough. ie. what if we went to lunch had 2 beers then drove back to work only to get stopped... automatically lose your license? doesnt always make sense.

and besides... our beaches here are shit in toronto lol its not worth going topless here especially with all the creepos with spy cams and leaving razor blades at ashbridges bay lol.

brampton has professors lake which is a man made lake. its full of kids but i get a great tan and the water is clean + tested every week. costs $3 but i feel much safer there and no one bothers me. and no, i dont go there for the kids LMAO

Every time I see a woman with a top on at the beach it pisses me off. I made my fiance get rid of all her tops.

LOL... I've been waiting for that law to come into effect for years, and when it does... nothing. I haven't been to an major beach in about three years, but when I did go, you were lucky if MAYBE one person went topless. Dam rip off I'd say... LOL. Probably wouldn't matter anyway since there's too many disrespectful "pigs" that would make any girl feel too uncomfortable to even bother.

Actually. although "technically" the law is .08......if you are pulled over with .05 or higher you automatically get a fine and get your license suspended (first time 3 days, second time 7 days, third time 30 days). This came into effect last summer and replaced the old 12 hour suspensions. You cannot argue or dispute this fine/suspension in any way.

This, I think is absolute BS!!!! If I'm driving while within my legal right here in Ontario and blow over .05 (not against the law!) my license gets suspended AND I get a fine AND I have no recourse whatsoever in deputing that. Although, if I break the law and blow over .08 at least I have a right to a fair trial and can defend myself in court and dispute the charge. I honestly cant believe that in Canada they can impose such a penalty without allowing you to AT LEAST be able to dispute the accusation. Even our parking tickets are disputable.

Anyway, although this law seems quite restrictive I do see the value in this being put in place. Most drivers can't have any alcohol in their blood till they are a full G license anyway, and I think teaching younger adults to not drive with any booze in their system is a good thing. It only takes a couple drinks to get over the limit so drivers should just learn to not drink and this will help them learn that sort of thinking.

P.S. Are you aware that for most people two drinks will put you over the legal limit? I was surprised to find this out myself but it's true. I always thought that it was one drink per hour to be save but this isn't true either, it takes two hours to get rid of a single drink.

From the article:

quote:

In 2005, motor vehicle collisions were the leading cause of hospital admissions among youth aged 15 to 24.

I think its a good idea what the government did with regards to this issue. There are way too many bad young drivers out there, and other people pay the price. Today's youth, no offense, is less mature and less responsible. Ban of alcohol is for their own good - its not that big of a deal. People shouldn't drink and drive anyway, even in small amounts IMO. Because that encourages unsafe driving.

I've lost friends to drinking, one with vehicular accidents and two with alcohol poisoning (one acute, one consequential). A pregnant mother, good friend, killed in a car crash by a drunk, an overdrinking death, and a death of a friend due to cold weather, while drunk.

As a DJ, I've witnessed many cases of young drunk people driving home, surprising how many didn't end up in an accident. I've seen and read many cases in the paper of young people paying the price for alcohol abuse, almost weekly articles in the paper.

When it comes to responsibility, laws need to be tightened. The new generation of young people don't know much about responsibility, no offense. They don't teach qualities like that in school, I am afraid. And parents don't do much parenting anymore.

There was no top-less law that was re-instated. An Ontario court ruled that one woman's actions (being top-less walking down the street) did not violate the community standard of tolerance for one particular community (a town in Guelph, I believe). Because all communities have unique community standards of tolerance, each and every case needs to be judged on its own merit.
