One possibility is that your hard drive (or some other component) is dying. Unrelated to Rekordbox, but just happened the same time you installed it.

OK need some more details:

We you tried running repair permissions in disk utility, please be specific about what woulnd't work.

Are you saying it ran the permission repair but it didn't change anything or are you saying disk utility wouldn't run?

If it is the latter (disk util won't run), then I know what your problem is:

In Snow leopard, the original OSX version of disk utility does not work (at all). If you use finder and search for disk utility you'll see two versions...one works and one doesn't.

Find the one that does and use it on all disks.

Now if disk util will open but won't work on you're drive then the new drive you just installed has a problem. Did you install it yourself?

And by the way, you need to run repair permissions after a fresh install because you've probably installed a bunch of third party programs which can mess with permissions. It seems like rekordbox messed with them as well.

Let me know what happens....

Rann,

Sorry should have been more specific. I ran Disk Utility and Repair Permissions repaired a but load of permissions. What I meant by didn't work was that this didn't change my performance issues at all.

Got it - have you run OSX system update recently?

If not, then do it, reboot, then repair disk permissions again.

Also what version of rekordbox are you running?

Yes, that's the latest rekord box - do me a favor, try running system update again. Sometimes you have to run it after an install of a new program as that's the only way it can identify if there's a patch update available. (System update also checks for patches for specific software and drivers, not just the OS).

MacBook Pro 2.4 Core 2 Duo
2 GB RAM
500 GB internal hard drive (just that drive, no external)
10.6.4
iTunes and rekordbox are both installed in default locations (and only one user on os x)

weirdest problem...

Have you tried uninstalling Rekordbox and seeing if the mac responds better without it on your system?

I have the exact same mac and although it's nearly 30months (i'm assuming yours is around the same age). Mine is still healthy and running perfectly. Yours should do as well.

Uninstall the program. See if things speed up. If they do, we can blame Rekordbox. If they don't. I have a feeling something else has gone wrong during the installation.

Although you did a fresh install of your system, a month ago you say. I'd still be tempted to go through the process again. Format, reinstall OS then install Rekordbox and then the rest of your programs.

I know it's a pain in the ass, but it'll take you the guts of 2-5 hours but save you the lazy option of buying a new mac

i hear ya guys but getting my system up to snuff takes a lot longer than 2-5 hours... mobileme, itunes libraries, iphoto libraries, etc, etc...

i'm *this* close to getting a new MBP (mine is almost 48 months old!) so if/when i do make the new purchase, and i've transfered all my files, i'll try the un-install/re-install option and see if that solves it. i have a feeling it wont, though.

also, now that i've gone through the pain staking process of having rekordbox analyze 4500+ files, do i ever have to have it do that again? is that something that is stored in a database, or something that is stored in each mp3 file individually?

cheers guys for all the help!

-keith
