would love to see this! but sadly most people cant even handle a terrestrial vehicle. So it would have to be completely automated and what fun would that be? But yeah definitely as an option it would be cool, a replacement, maybe not so much.
|
it is all going towards that though, either we want it or not, we already have too many cars on our roads today, what will happen in 50 years? can you imagine how difficult it will be to travel from one side of the city to another? it will be nightmare

i am a firm believer in the idea that the oil companies are suppressing alternate forms of fuel. Look at the electric car fiasco as a good example. And its not just about oil. The car companies make a lot more money off of breaking parts for a gas powered engine.

even if this were possible its not for me. Its not natural. We sleep for a reason. Pills should never replace sleep.
|
pills or not you're thinking about "what would happen if it was here today" i'm talking about a future necessity of not having to sleep as much or at all due to whatever circumstances. I have a hard time believing that we as humans will not evolve into a super human that can sleep only 1-3 hours in like 2000 years or maybe a little longer.

again no thanks. Except in cases where women cant have kids, this again is a natural process for a reason.
|
again i'm not talking today but many years from now - future.
natural or not many things we do today are not natural like using contraception, we're not supposed to have sex if we are not procreating "naturally speaking". if people from 5000 years ago would look at us today they would think we are ufos compared to them.

its already possible for humans to not eat meat. We do so because we enjoy it and it does have health benefits. Why would anyone want to eat something completely synthetic anyways? As for killing animals, again this is nature. Its how species survive. Its called the food chain. No different than how a bear will maul and eat a human.
|
i understand the concept of food chain but you have to understand out of all the animals we are the only ones that can differentiate what is right and what is wrong, killing another human is the worst crime you could commit, why is killing an animal ok? it is another "live being" just like all of us here. We do now that slaughter is wrong yet we still do it because there is no law against it. I do believe that eventually when we do reach that level of understanding we will be able to substitute meat for something else on a mass scale globally.

this already bothers me now. The electromagnetic pollution in the air is already contributing to cancer. Just wait till the wifi feedback comes in. If anything we should be investing in more fibreoptics and buried cable. Its faster, safer and more reliable especially if its a huge unbreakable network.
|
i need proof for such claims.

awesome ideas but im always weary when we try to play god or mother nature. somethings like how we treat our bodies should just be left to natural ways. Whereas things like flying cars etc are awesome ideas and those are the type of things that would fully benefit society. |
you have to understand that we will never stay the way we are today, we have to play mother nature to evolve and reach new heights/levels thats what we are here for.

lol. someone has been reading too much sci fi lately? (btw all of these issues have been discussed in sci fi books one way or another...)
|
i actually haven't, i was just thinking about this shit over some time now and why some technology is not up to par as it should be imo, wanted to see what others thought heh

technology for this is already there, with GPS, VTOL/STOL (IE Harrier jet), auto pilot in aircraft. I think the issue is more of making it affordable for everyday joe.
heck, even some sort of hover car would be pretty cool. and road rages would be so much more fun
|
exactly, until it becomes affordable with all the changes in place it will take hundred years if not more

sounds like you're looking for something that would 'trick' the body into thinking it's getting enough sleep
possible side effect: if body thinks its getting enough sleep on some sort of fast mode, does this mean our body will age faster? our body is highly adaptable to surrounding environment, and i think it'd take a lot to 'trick' it. possible consequences to altering body sleep cycle... i dunno. could be really bad IMO
and any dependencies on pills, i'm not in favour for. just having a constant supply available would be a pain in the ass
|
nice point about aging, i haven't though about that. you see, when this does in fact get implemented i think there will be some serious tests conducted, possibly long term ones to see the effect on humans that it may cause. something like this may take a couple thousand years to fully understand and achieve.

there are benefits to this, like easier detection of genetic defects and other problems that babies might have
but i think it'll be more of a ethical/social issue. pregnancy is built into our social psyche. motherhood is a basis of stable family culture that's been ingrained in humanity. something like incubating babies mean a rather radical change in social perspective, and i'm not sure if it's for the best of humanity
|
I agree about ethical issue but we can see many people do that today, imagine a woman that does not have to experience any birth side effects, complete changes in hormones and weight, no need for carrying a baby for 9 months and more. well fuck if i was a woman and this was available id go for it for sure.

so far, any substitute of meat products just don't taste as good as the original meat... i'd deffo substitute real meat for fake stuff if it tastes the same, but there's something about real meat that fake stuff just can't mimic
as for animals... well, sucks to be animals in lower food chain *shrug*
we really should ask lions if they feel bad eating gazelles. yeah i know. humans have evolved and have more mental capabilities than a lion, but basic nature concept remains the same
|
heh the meat that we eat today is already very fake :P it's pretty nasty actually when i think about it.

urm. other than electricity itself, don't we use some sort of wireless technology one way or another? (or have the ability to do so) |
wireless technology is only for signal using radio waves. i was mostly speaking of getting rid of all the wires altogether
