With a simple CAI, upgraded turbo running good boost (stock turbo runs at 12lbs), new up pipe and down pipe, front mount intercooler, electronic boost controller, new fuel injectors, ofcourse a new BOV, and stock exhaust you're looking at high 12s easy.......
Ofcourse you can always go into the motor and jump up that 2.0 displacement. Also, can put in some new pistons and run different compression. Replace the factory dual over head camshafts etc.etc..and throw on a 75 shot of gas.....but to be honest, ESPECIALLY for rally, its not really necessary. As far as the stock independent suspension, it works good enough. Ofcourse, if you plan on going through some challenging offroad, you may wish to upgrade.
But you really don't have to do any of that......the cars run great as is.....A lightly modified subaru will take nearly anything off the line......their only downfall is on the top, where the AWD starts laggin, (ironically with a turbo). You could get RWD transfer, however, it too isn't necessary. Either way, with an upgraded turbo that can handle serious boost with all the fittings, the things are lethal.....The limited slip rear differential as well as the overall drivetrain on these things are built well, especially considering 6000 RPM launches are done frequently. Friend hasn't had any problems with his car yet, and he's got about 20k + on it.......You really can't go wrong cuz of their 100,000 mile warranty in which they offer. Getting that, if you plan on racing, is a definite.
Here, some videos
The car me and my friend have worked on, is the black WRX in the vids.......it'll run 12s with proper configuration.
Keep in mind the its all being video'd from another 02 WRX (running 13.5s)....
