With a simple CAI, upgraded turbo running good boost (stock turbo runs at 12lbs), new up pipe and down pipe, front mount intercooler, electronic boost controller, new fuel injectors, ofcourse a new BOV, and stock exhaust you're looking at high 12s easy.......

Ofcourse you can always go into the motor and jump up that 2.0 displacement. Also, can put in some new pistons and run different compression. Replace the factory dual over head camshafts etc.etc..and throw on a 75 shot of gas.....but to be honest, ESPECIALLY for rally, its not really necessary. As far as the stock independent suspension, it works good enough. Ofcourse, if you plan on going through some challenging offroad, you may wish to upgrade.

But you really don't have to do any of that......the cars run great as is.....A lightly modified subaru will take nearly anything off the line......their only downfall is on the top, where the AWD starts laggin, (ironically with a turbo). You could get RWD transfer, however, it too isn't necessary. Either way, with an upgraded turbo that can handle serious boost with all the fittings, the things are lethal.....The limited slip rear differential as well as the overall drivetrain on these things are built well, especially considering 6000 RPM launches are done frequently. Friend hasn't had any problems with his car yet, and he's got about 20k + on it.......You really can't go wrong cuz of their 100,000 mile warranty in which they offer. Getting that, if you plan on racing, is a definite.

Here, some videos

The car me and my friend have worked on, is the black WRX in the vids.......it'll run 12s with proper configuration.

Keep in mind the its all being video'd from another 02 WRX (running 13.5s)....

Enjoy

over here in holland, the 555 was a special version of an ordinary GT TURBO. special, but cheaper . anywayz, it had those golden rims (see jploveparades car) and no abs.

the gt turbo was in some countries (UK for example) known as the wrx. because subaru thought it was interesting to call the same in the whole world, the new model is WRX.

so:

gt turbo = old model in some countries
555 = special version
wrx = name old model in some countries, name of new model in the entire world

then you have offcourse special versions like the p1 and the wrx sti 22b (old model 2-doors, wide body) and the wrx sti (new model, more horsepower ) but apart fromo the wrx sti (new model) all the special versions have this stupid righthanddrive thingy . result of this is that over here some people are tuning it up thereselves (I think the strongest impreza is now around 330 bhp, build by a former formula 1 mechanic , allthough on the inet I've found one with 400+ bhp, which broke down quite fast )

some more info: no-one seems able to tell how much horsepower an impreza has... the early versions had 211 hp, later 218. BUT, the impreza-club holland has measured there cars (some modified, some standard) and even the standard ones had 231 brake hp ... (need to say more)

funny fact: when the old version was modified (in 97 or so) it was introduced on hollands biggest circuit.... the press thought: excellent, now we can put the pedal to the metal and actually race it!

that day a number of impreza's didn't survive (I'm looking for the stupid pics, but my inet leaves me alone atm )

if you buy one of these, which would be an ENORMOUS good choice, you have to be aware of one thing: don't overate yourself. It doesn't go wrong fast in these cars, but when you lose control, you have this speed you won't need an airbag, cause it won't bring you anywhere... or let's say it this way: you won't be on these boards anymore...(unless you have it, while modifying, caged )

found it!

if the pic doesn't work just rightclick and follow the link...

in the article was said that during the introduction there was a driving cursus for the journalists (!) and a competion (!!). during this competition, 3 cars where crashed ... then they thought it would be smarter to stop

EDIT:

I don't feel like working now, so I'll put up some more pics + stories..

this here is probably the fastest, or at least in the top 3 fastest impreza's in holland. the guy is a former f1 mechanic and build it up rom the ground.. the coupebody as shown on the pic is not available in holland.. he bought it in america (I think), and let it modify at prodrive, the company that also builds the wrc's. then he build his own chip (!!!) and therefor got out something like 330 bhp...

haven't heard anything of this car lately... could be wrecked, sold, still driving around..

the new model with some changes.. I definately recommend the lightcovers, because the standard stuff doesn't looks like ANYTHING..this is an optional bodykit, but comes in quite expensive

need to say more?

...damn, it looks like the subaruclub in holland is just about DEAD, there site is a wreck, old, cheap... it used to have LOADS of info and pics.... now just a couple of pics, nothing else..

aaahhhh...I see there are enuf sube fans here = ) heehee I drive a 02' Impreza WRX. Its amazing. AWD definitly has its advantages but if u plan to drag then the extra weight from the AWD will be a downside but if u plan to autocross or streetrace then its great. I don't have much body work but all my funds goes towards under the hood.
