i dj solely off cd, puely for economic reasons, plus the fact that its absolutely impossible to get decent vinyls in ireland, any trance is almost always shit cheese from germany. eventually, if a get a few gigs under my belt and its all goin well, ill get myself some turntables, but ill never stop playing off cd, as john "00" fleming said, "i dj 80% of my sets off cd", so if its good enough for him, its good enough for me!

My vote : CDS
I used to mix vynil but now mix cds. this change was due to the low availabilty of quality vynil in Mexico. People her more often spin cds. we buy vynil but keep it as a collection item aqnd ripit to cd to play at psrties. trust me that kickas track on vynil doesn´t sound as good after you´ve palyed it a couple hundred times. CD quality does not go down with use only with abuse. |
That's what I would do even if I was a top-notch DJ! I would have a collection of vinyl at home and for every new record I would get, I would just rip it to TOP-OF-THE-LINE GOLD CD-R and play that at the sets. After all, why don't many DJs do this? Keep their rare stuff at home, safe from getting damaged and just use the CD-Rs? Or (if no one can notice the sound difference), rip from that CD-R you just made to a 320 kbps, encoded by LAME 3.92 or better, MP3! Burn all those MP3s to CD-R and just mix with 2 of those! You have over 11 hours (almost 6 hours/disc) of high (CD to the average human ear) quality music! Are MP3-CD turntables out yet? Either one or the other method's not bad at all.
