Listen to me: I opened up last week for deadmau5 at London homecomeing because of Alen. He hooked me up with JLR and we spend a week creating the most opener-friendly setlist I've ever heard. I also interviewed Lee Mortimer and chilled out with Hatiras last month at Revival, where we play our monthly shows. I've met 30 DJs since I decided I'd take a sharp career turn and get back into making/playing music.

If you want to work for it, drop a line. There are people who are just as hungry as you to make it happen - I'm one of them.

i think its pretty sick that you had such an opportunity, too bad your name wasnt even on the flyer, try to fight for that next time :}

The collective has yet to have anyone leave the group out of displeasure for the way things were runned, or for the opportunities that have been given to them; opportunities that they may have never gotten on their own.

The Collective have been given the opportunity to open for Deadmau5, Hatiras, John Acquaviva, and soon Richard Vision. I've personally Gotten to play the second opening set for John Acquaviva and had gotten a spot playing on the same bill as Hatiras. Those were my first and second times ever playing the clubs here in Toronto so I don't see how being a part of this group is a bad thing for your DJ resume? So you do a couple shows for free, everyone needs to put in their time to get where they need to go and if you don't see that well then good luck on your road to mediocrity.

That being said though, any member of the collective is able to take their cut of their ticket sales and walk, no one holds it against you, so if you want to get paid, you get paid. However, those who keep their money in the collective pot get to experiece things that others won't. This month we have Graham from Thunderheist coming in to speak with us and to review our productions and give us pointers and knowlege he's acquired over the years to help us in starting what we would like to be a prosperous career in the industry. Maybe i'm just the only one who thinks this way, but being new to the industry, getting paid in knowledge and experience is better than any amount of money. Maybe in a few years when Deadmau5 is opening for me will I think working for the experience is total donkey dick.

Alen has also secured opening spots for BPM and the OM party at WMC, to be given out to those who work hard for the team, FYI these are paid spots.

And of course Alen's out to make money, who the hell isn't? Everyone makes money off of everyone, that's how the world works. And regardless of whether or not you agree with Alen's personality, his on screen persona, or his dick sucking abilities, the bottom line is he has the backing, support, and connections to help the people in the group who help him. And who are you? you're a nobody, which is why you have to hide behind an alias when you bad mouth a group of 20 strong.

Good luck with your future though.

Hey guys, just a quick note on the comments made so far in the thread, from someone who has had some short term success so far as part of Audio Academy's Toronto collective.

I've been DJing for 10 years now in Toronto and around southern Ontario and was sceptic too when I first entered into the group, as I had heard promises made from other promoters, etc in the past that hadn't panned out. So far I have had the opportunity to play at the gigs mentioned above, but the real big plus for me has been the opporunity to collaborate with other aspiring DJs/producers, as well as receiving candid feedback from established producers such as Ryan Wilock. (which is rare to get in this industry)

Evryone is entitled to their opinion on the structure of our team, and it works for some people and not for others, and there's nothing wrong with that. In terms of playing opening sets etc, that is par for the course in the industry until your a more household name, and promoters find value in booking you for the crowd you can draw, etc. I have taken pride in opening up for many of Toronto's finest and International DJs, no matter if its at 7pm or right before their peak hour set, as every gig is a different experience.

If anyone is interested in hearing more real examples of what the team is about, feel free to drop me a line.
