Back on topic, you're panning the low-range end for monitors, so your choices are going to be somewhat limited. Why studio monitors for DJing, if you don't mind my asking - are you planning on producing as well?

I just like them because they are powered and sound good...

See, I own a pair of B2031As, but found them way too flat for DJing, so I paired them up with a sub so I could catch all that tasty low end - a little colour in your sound isn't a bad thing when it comes to DJing. (production's a different story - the sub goes off when it comes to working on tracks).

What you're describing sounds like a volume issue, not a bass issues. Aside from the suggested look into room treatment - and this might sound like a bit of a throwback - why not just get an inexpensive amp and a decent pair of bookshelf speakers? You'll hear more bass at a lower volume with those than you will with any pair of purposefully flat reference monitors. And if you absolutely must have powered units then a pair of high-end computer speakers will still probably suit your needs better than studio monitors.

Thankful I don't have volume (or bass) issues where I live...

Yeah its a bass/volume issue... basically I just cant turn the volume up too loud where I live so I always had to keep it like super low with the Mackie MR8's, and the bass has to be especially cut down because the mackies are big speakers. Just hoping I can keep the bass at a normal level if I get 5 or 6 inch monitors.

I had high-end computer speakers before... and bookshelf speakers + amp would probably cost about the same as low end (price wise) monitors, and is just more clutter.

I will probably just get a pair of KRK RP6 G2's at Moog... they are only 227 a piece.

As has been suggested, listen to a few pair before making a final decision. Long & McQuade on Bloor has a dedicated speaker room where you can demo whatever it is you're thinking of buying.

Which sub did you end up picking up? I have the same monitors (absolutely love em) but I wouldnt mind a little more 'oomph' for some of the pounding prog/techno stuff i spin. I know there is a corresponding Truth Sub that goes along with those monitors.. I was debating picking that up.
