I agree with you about tiesto but I am still a fan and if he had a gig in NYC i would def attend. And with his tracklists you cant play 40 straight songs that are your own but they have always been like that...
I am still kind of new to the scene so havent been around the block to see many djs. I havent even seen those names come up on the NY thread for gigs but if you have any sets u recommend please send them my way. It seems like what you may seem as talent someone else might have their own opinion.....
And for gareths cd, it definely a different sound but thats a good thing for him... Everybody loves something a little different! Dont get me wrong id rather cut my ears off then listen to the cd version of sanctuary but Sean Tyas (my fav dj/producer) remix is a bomb

Ermmm... just because something is popular does not mean its because of talent. Tiesto produces very few of his own tracks, for starters. There is nothing to his music... its just dull and unimaginative. Look at Madonna, she has ripped people off her whole career and is filthy rich and successful. Tiesto makes money because most people never get more than an inch deep into electronic music, never grow or expand their tastes or listen to something interesting for once.
Lets face it, most people get into EDM through people like Tiesto not because he is an amazing dj/producer, but because he makes himself accessible to the masses.
As for Gareth's cd, the annoying stabbing synths and horrible female vocals ruin it. Metropolis was a great track, because it was subtle, progressive, and creative. None of those traits are present on the album.
Who do I like you ask?
DJ's who play real trance/progressive music and have not conformed to playing the exact same sound as everyone else.
Guys like John 00 Fleming, Michael & Levan, Kay-D, Way Out West, Moshic, Airwave, Miika Kuisima, Christopher Lawrence to name a few. |
have you heard miika kuismas new album !> fucken boooomb!

I can understand people wanting to tech up their house since Techno is the shit, but please don't house up my Techno. |

EDC and Nocturnal Texas brought a lot of good talent. Andrew Parsons has some nice shows going in Austin. Jeremy Word and Jayson Gold have good shows up in Dallas. This year brought a lot of new talent, maybe you just need to get out of Houston =/
...And we will always have the "washed up talent" coming because they make the money and help keep this scene alive for us.
Damn TA has too much negativity...and you guys wonder why it is dead.
