I have read a lot of nay-sayers who argue that this needs to be done to prove it one way or the other, but I think that it defeats the purpose (not saying I believe in the experiment). The idea is that the negative energy directed toward the rice/water creates the result. If there is no energy directed toward the jars because the words mean nothing to the observer, then it wont work.

I think to test it properly, it needs to be in a controlled environment. Everything sterilized equally, rice distributed equally, water frozen equally etc. etc. There are a lot of variables - ice crystals form in different shapes dependent on the temperature in which they froze, the rice that was sitting at the top of the pot is exposed to air longer and more likely to have developed bacteria etc. etc. However, the observer not knowing which jar is which will make the entire point of the experiment null.

But there is no evidence that energy of any sort is even being directed at all. The use of the term "energy" in theories like this is metaphorical, not literal and physical. When people mix these two up, they start expecting a physical effect to pop out of simple emotional investment (metaphorical "energy").

Of course they do, because the experimenter wants it to happen, so he may (unconsciously) be more careful with one of the bottles.

It's like saying that I'm hot stuff and that I will only attract people that I find attractive, and offering as a proof that I've never had a relationship with someone I wasn't attracted to. Why, of course, I wouldn't even put any effort in a relationship with someone I fancy, let alone pursue any sort of stability so I could call it a proper relationship

Ideally yes. But I'm willing to have gay passionate bonking sessions with Emoto if, as he and my mother would predict, only the rice in the bottles with the words "Hate" and "Death" went stale. It'd be too much of a fluke!

Physical energy != metaphorical energy, and this neohippie science mixes both up all the time because, according to Quantum physics, everything is made up of energy.

It will be devastating. Yin and Yang will collapse into a spectacular singularity and instead of any positive or negative energy there will only be an absence of any such emotion constituting either.







From a safe distance, however, the view will be spectacular. The only problem is that one will have to look inward as neither positive or negative "energy" is visible.
