Bloody Emoto is just trying to give all the kotodama nonsense some scientific credibility.
Actually, this thread reminds me that I want to make a similar blind test with my gullible mother who believes this stuff passionately. For example, she sent me once the picture of two "sealed" bottles of rice: In one of them the word "Love" was written on a label, and the other bottle had the word "Hate" on it. Thanks to the almighty power of energy, the rice in the hate bottle was full of fungi, whereas the love bottle was white and clean (which means to me that life develops on hate, but she sort of reached a different conclusion).
I proposed to make a blind test in which I'd give her 6 bottles, 6 words in Japanese (which she doesn't understand) with the words "Love", "Hate", "Life", "Death", "Rice" and "Horse" so she could fill the bottles with rice, seal them and then - as she wished - apply the label randomly to the bottles (as she doesn't understand what the funny drawings are all about anyway).
Actually, I should print the labels already... |
I have read a lot of nay-sayers who argue that this needs to be done to prove it one way or the other, but I think that it defeats the purpose (not saying I believe in the experiment). The idea is that the negative energy directed toward the rice/water creates the result. If there is no energy directed toward the jars because the words mean nothing to the observer, then it wont work.
I think to test it properly, it needs to be in a controlled environment. Everything sterilized equally, rice distributed equally, water frozen equally etc. etc. There are a lot of variables - ice crystals form in different shapes dependent on the temperature in which they froze, the rice that was sitting at the top of the pot is exposed to air longer and more likely to have developed bacteria etc. etc. However, the observer not knowing which jar is which will make the entire point of the experiment null.

Of course they do, because the experimenter wants it to happen, so he may (unconsciously) be more careful with one of the bottles.
It's like saying that I'm hot stuff and that I will only attract people that I find attractive, and offering as a proof that I've never had a relationship with someone I wasn't attracted to. Why, of course, I wouldn't even put any effort in a relationship with someone I fancy, let alone pursue any sort of stability so I could call it a proper relationship

Ideally yes. But I'm willing to have gay passionate bonking sessions with Emoto if, as he and my mother would predict, only the rice in the bottles with the words "Hate" and "Death" went stale. It'd be too much of a fluke!
