Fuck what Kanye does or doesn't do/stand for/believe in - this is just another (most likely unconscious) effort on Bush's part to deflect attention away from himself.

Any politician with even a modicum of humility would have pointed to some gaffe or poor decision of their own as a possible low during their career - "well, what I truly regret doing/not doing was..."
