Seandroid - this is first step in the right direction my friend, kick seats better in this track already (is still not perfect one yet but big improvement already) - intro could be bit shorter with at last one-two good/unique/warm sounds (don't get me wrong - you want to have that instant "wooooow" factor and have this "really cool" listener experience) - progression is really nice and set listener very well for this (this drop should be much stronger/bigger) 2:06 part - main part could/should have layer of low freq bass line added to support your kick directly (this is the punch you are looking for, so drive all the people from there chairs to a dancing floor) - so this final part must have some sweet melodic lead going on to nicely close this track.

My $0.02 - only my vision for this track my friend - good luck with it.

Cheers,

G.R.I.D.

Hey! Wow! Thanks for the in depth criticism dude, I really appreciate it.

In terms of the drop sounding bigger, I'm struggling to make it sound huge without losing that electro vibe, I find electro tracks usually have a sort of dryness to them, there's little effect spillover, and I really want to have that soloed clap after the drop, because, as I've seen whenever I show it to my friends, it makes almost everyone clap, hahaha. I was thinking of doing a pitch bent square synth with tremolo or something that soars down in a huge room reverb but I don't know. I'm really working on making that drop hit harder though.

Also, for the kick drum, do you mean like add an actual sub bassline underneath the kick every time it plays? I could also try using a bass amp too, I've found that works surprisingly well actually, provided that's what you mean in the first place.

And BTW, yeah, the second hook will have a lot more variation when I'm finished with it, I was actually thinking about using a strings sample with a short release and attack to play a melody I have in my head, if my brain isn't messing with me it should sound pretty good Right now I just kind of placed it there so that the second breakdown was leading to something.

I really appreciate this though man.

I would try and keep EDM mixes as dry as possible. Not saying don't use reverb but when your track is played on a big system, a nice crisp dry mix will sound so much clearer. Not saying never use it but some people go overboard. Some people add it to everything in various amounts because they think , that is what you do. Just like some people highpass everything but the kick and bass. These are decisions that tend to have no reasoning except bad habits.

There are many ways to create space in a track and you don't have to use reverb all the time.

Also, stop keeping us informed of every update. It is rather annoying. I mean not that annoying as i don't' really have to click but I start to wonder what your deal is and then that makes my mood a little fowl.

Finish a track, then ask for feedback. None of this 20% finished bs. You probably don't realize it but it is just a search for praise and I know you won't agree but I've done the same. You did something you are proud and you want some props. I won't ever give good feedback unless you've taken the time to do something worthwhile. I actually feel like people posting really raw shit an affront to the value of my time and it is rather insulting. If you want feedback, either be more specific if it is a raw track and not just like how is my kick.

Put some effort and people will respond more.

It's really not a search for praise, I'm sure you recall my last thread on here, the reason I'm doing it in this manner is because there are a lot of talented producers here and when I'm in the wrong direction people will actually be honest and let me know, I would normally just trust my instincts but as I've found before, and you know full well what I mean, sometimes that doesn't work out.

I have discovered that my headphones were actually a surprisingly HUGE part of the problem in terms of how my synthesizers were sounding because they were not proper mixing headphones and were boosting frequencies and pulling others out, blah blah blah, but I'm just trying to make sure everything works out right, and people can give me better advice on specific things when they hear them in progress because it makes problem issues stick out more.

Obviously I am trusting my instincts to a certain point, but I live in a small town and I really don't have a way to get a second opinion from anyone who knows anything in this town, this is my only outlet really, because every other EDM forum is either awful or dead.

I understand what you mean, but this is a learning experience for me, and I hope you noticed I'm not just posting bits of the track and ignoring the advice people give me, I modified the levels in the mix to boost the clap because Sako was right, it was too far behind in the mix, and I also tried to make the kick a bit less dry and have it fit in the mix better.

I don't know, I appreciate the input though man.

the best teacher is to just listen to properly mixed music and A/B
You will get various advice here that may not be what you want or tainted with personal taste.

I can understand if you have a very specific question like lets say at the drop, your kick disappears and you are wondering what most do in this case. Edmonton isn't that small. I hear the meth is top notch. My sister is at the UA. I sadly had to live in Calgary for a few years.

Bhahahahhaha. Wow. I don't actually live in Edmonton. I live in Wetaskiwin, I just knew that nobody would know where that is or what the fuck a Wetaskiwin is so I just placed the largest city closest to me for my location.

Calgary is a great city too, clearly you didn't have a great experience there, bahaha.

All those option are valid my friend, try them out and see which one makes you excited - bass line idea is right - direct support for kick.

Remember "this is just the beginning" so don't expect any miracles, everything takes time!!!!!!

Cheers.

Calgary ?

you have to be kidding me. A cultural vacuum populated by self righteous christian wing nuts. I was raised in Montreal and boy was that time in Calgary long and painful. I remember being gay bashed when I visited my parents for Christmas because I had some white dress shoes. I was confused as hell. I do miss the ginger beef.

I suppose I haven't lived there, but I see where you're coming from, Calgary is like the southern USA of Canada.

Edmonton is the OPPOSITE of Calgary that way, there's a huge gay community in Edmonton and it's a pretty damn open minded city.

I love the gays. Actually they love me but my self esteem could use the boost. Does Boodang still do stuff there ? How about Apollo? I haven't talked to anyone from that scene in years. Since 2002 ? I probably know most of the talent there and they still probably suck as always.

Oh i'm reinstalling osx on my other mac so and i can't remember M4B password as I had it automated with this keychain program.

great stuff....and the intro should have the ability to build up tension for the next part of the song IMO.like the first 60 secs could be used to show what the next 60 secs has to offer.i believe adding in some effects, sweeps, very subtle pads/dreamy sound(which kinda matches the synth progression)would make it delicious ...also the kick sample is kinda is not mixing in well IMO man...

but great stuff anyway

I updated the track, I changed the kick sample and I think the new one fits in much better, and yeah, the intro will be changed to have some warmer "teasing" sounds in it, but I've got an idea, I'm still working on coming up with a really nice melody to compliment the second hook that doesn't take away from the nice groove it has now, and what I want to do is tease THIS (future) melody at the beginning of the track and have it not reintroduced until near the end.

Anyway, here's the update.
