hey guys, what are your recomendations for carts that DO NOT require a headshell?

Are there any? or is it just better to spend the money on headshells as well....?

Yeah that's what I figured. It seems that all the better carts seem to require headshells so that is saying something right?

I know this isn't a direct answer but most carts with awesome quality are without headshells .... actually yes and no

commonly headshell carts = cheaper, and more scratch oriented , but off course there also exists great models for mixing

for carts without headshell = more expensive, and more mixing oriented ..... these have a tendency for superior quality because of superior price,

ortofon on the other hand has the same carts in two series, headshell or non.... same needle and carts just different shape of the cart

I suggest if you want top notch sound get non headshell ones ... much much better ... cause much more expensive and sound comes out better cause it's more "studied" ? I don't know how to put it ....

Hey,

The ortofons are great, sound quality and stylus. Although, since you do not have the money for it. I suggest you buy the Staton 580's S Serries. The sound quality is on par with the Ortofon Nighclub Serries. You really do not need Ortofons unless you so of a scratch dj. You can find a pair for $100 plus tax of coarse will be like 103 or something.($50 dollars each seperatly). Thats just the needle, if you need headshells it will cost you more. Only downfall is the stylus for the Staton 580's arent like the Ortofons at all, there regular. So if your in it for the style of the ortofons then you wont want it. Hope I could help.

JaY

that's what i got and they are incredible. There isn't a noticeable difference between those and the concordes. PLUS, they have tracking at .75-1.5 grams, meaning don't worry about your vinyl gettin messed up. I've got technics and the tracking is at 1.0 gram and they don't skip. They are awesome!! I mean, if you are scratching, you definitely want more, but for mixing. WOW, i got mine for $50 a piece @ audiolines.com

i'd agree..

if your scratching, just put the headshell weight on, aux weight on the back of the tonearm, and set the M44G's to about 2 or 2.5 grams, they will hold just about any sort of moderate scratching. the bass is quite clean, too

This is a slight exageration of the truth but here's to show you the tendency of how/why they do cart w/ headshells and /wh

headshell carts also = dj on a budget

headshell less carts = "pro" djs

it's off course an exageration , cause both will do , but the quality is most of the time found in the banana carts ( as I so love to call them )
