@Mad for Brad - have you used the EWQL Pianos? If so, do you think it's worth $149?

the bosendorfer imperial one ? It sounds quite muffled. The Berlin and NY grand are actually good. People just prefer pianos that are not bright which is not what a grand piano sounds like. You can always EQ something that is bright. You can't with pianos that are muffled.

Comprehensive list of all VST Piano Libraries
Enjoy!

Personally, I like the Malmsjö Acoustic Grand.
(Sounds like this)

Pianoteq also has great playability and it doesn't require you to have loads of Gigabytes of free space.

I been looking for Piano patches / sounds for 3 weeks now hard.
What I found so far is that acoustic pianos on vst's and Reason are not that good.
I think Roland Piano jv/xv hardware sounds better.
But for E.piano FM8 Rocks!

vsts will always sound better than hardware units as the sample space is not sufficient. Check out Ivory if you aren't convinced. That roland piano sounded so electric.

I've been collecting piano libraries for about 10 years. 3 weeks is not enough time to come to this conclusion.

Going to check it out.
Don't get me wrong I Think vst's can sound better then hardware only if the patch is programed right.
Hear is a sample of a Reason piano NN-XT patch.

I did not play the song I just use .midi and Reason.

Excellent for house pianos. Well, the hardware version was, so I assume the software version is as well.

Agreed. Highly usable for a lot of "bread and butter" sounds, and virtually indistinguishable from the hardware M1. The Korg M1 House Piano has been used in countless classic dance tracks. Rumor has it the HousePiano preset is the goto piano sound for A&B. Also has very underrated pads. (Well, underrated by the newer producers anyway, most of the guys I know that have been producing since the 90's use it quite a bit).

Another benefit is if you buy the KLDE package, you also get a software version of the WaveStation with all the expansion cards. That particular synth is another one of those "secret weapon" synths thats only seemingly in use by producers who have been doing it for a while.

It really, really depends on what you want, what you like and in what context you will use it.

Ivory sounds the most realistic without a doubt, but maybe some subtle differences will make you like another library much more (personal taste or more appropriate in the context). Like some pieces just sound better on a Bösendorfer and some better on a Bechstein or Steinway.

Pianoteq allows for very impressive playability and I've had people tell me that they could never use a sample library as it was just not as responsive and playable as pianoteq (we're obviously talking extremely subtle differences which make or break the vst for some people).

Then comes the question if you need that entire dynamic range seperately sampled or not. If you're just gonna have some piano chords and notes here and there in a compressed Genre like House or Trance and that's all you'll ever need it for, then Ivory/NI Akoustik etc. would be a big waste of money as you'd end up compressing it.

I still think getting complete 7 at the price they are selling it at a ridiculously good deal. I mean it covers everything.

I dont' think you have any idea what you're talking about.

Tip 1: stay away from nexus unless you want to sound like "OMG TIEST0Rzz".

Tip 2: Steinberg has a good piano library as does Native instruments. Why not just buy the whole komplete packuage and educate yourself about good sound.

As far as eastwest gear goes, I wouldn't touch anything that requires an ilok but thats just personal preference.
