Thinking about it... I think I can focus. It's really weird how it works though. I can be completely unproductive, slacking off all day. Then, I get very productive at night. For some reason, after 5PM and on weekends is when I accomplish most of my work. I just procrastinate until last second and then play "extreme mental sports" - to see how much I can accomplish quickly.
Heck, I can be HYPER focused.
If I'm working on a track, I can get detailed to the point of obsession (that's why I haven't finished a single one). If I'm drawing a design diagram for my work, I'll spend COUNTLESS HOURS making sure it's perfect, there's not a kink in a line.
The fucked up thing is that there are days when I know I MUST WORK but I'm either posting here, reading FB, watching youtube vids, and participating in all kinds of clever work-avoidance techniques.
I'll start working and then second later do something else. I think it's not really ADD... it may be just my utter desire NOT TO WANT TO DO THE WORK I'm supposed to be doing.
I'm a fake ADD. I fail at being full-blown ADD, I think.
Oh, look - PUPPY!

There are two types of behaviour associated with ADHD, correct? Hyperactivity and inattentiveness. Hyperactivity I can buy into, because most people do not struggle to stay calm during day-to-day activity. There is no skill that most humans have to learn there. However, I have never met a single person who has not struggled to concentrate at some point or another. Fuck, I'm having this inconsequential discussion right now when I should be working on that document open in the background. Maybe I should be reaching for the pills right now. |
ADD is a problem with neuro transmitters or some shit. How can you learn to decide for them to work properly? What you described is not AD(h)D, It is normal to have concentration issues from time to time. In reality it's long term and you can't just decide to snap out of it. Just like with mood swings.
Sure there are paranoid people, like perhaps aNYthing, who read an article about adhd on some backwards web site, and then when they experience something similar they go ZOMG IM ADHD GIMME MEDS.. Same thing is with depression, ppl get divorced, break up, go emo, fail classes and feel "depressed", but they won't(well, shouldn't) get a diagnosis because they will get over it as it's not real depression.
My point is, you can't just declare something as unreal just because of some false cases, while you've never seen the real thing.
