Really creative stuff as always

I just feel you should use better samples, these ones are just too low quality, kinda takes away the experience for me lol

Love that call to =D

I like the way you do your own thang Ed.
Solid work as usual - I have nothing in terms of crits here.

Yeah. Do you have Reason 3.0 or higher? That's where most of the core to the song is and I've got instrument samples all lined up on it. I can stem the rest out of SONAR.

EDIT:

"And I think we're dead." @JBJ - One of my favorite parts of that call.

Thanks, Richard Butler, Darius, tehlord, craigb1, Sako, and Rodri - Although I'm a little unclear at what you were getting at, Mr. Santos. I'm assuming it's good.

The phone call leaves a lot to be desired in terms of audio fidelity but it was actually better than I could have hoped for. Regardless, I appreciate the kudos and the criticism. It was actually a little more than I was hoping for with this tune.

I would say the drum samples definitely need to be updated, they sound pretty lo-fi and flat. They also tend to get overpowered by the synths/fx which makes the track lose its drive entirely. The whole bit up until 3:30 feels like I'm listening to the intro because the whole track just seems to sit still and doesn't go anywhere. Might be due to the lack of bassline as well.

The sample is fun and the fx/synth stuff you have coming in and out is good, but the main flaw here is that the track is just waaaaaay too long for the amount of elements it has. I'm starting to lose interest halfway through. I think you're relying too heavily on the vocal sample alone.

Meh. I appreciate you and maybe I'm wrong, but I used three different synth stacks to make the bass-line. I pretty sure it's the loudest I've ever gotten with one, in fact.

Hell. Maybe I'm losing my hearing.

I can kind of hear what you're saying about the "lo-fi" but even that's a choice I'm happy with, given what the song is.

Well, thanks. I'm glad you liked what you heard but definitely wish you'd heard better (in terms of quality - not your hearing) than you did. I'm definitely keeping yours and others feedback in mind while I'm working on my current tune.

I only meant the first three minutes or so. The bass is there later on.

And it really isn't as bad as my comments may seem to make it out to be - my main gripe is the length, really.

I enjoyed listening to that, and I always appreciate people who make music the way they want, not what they think other people want to hear it.

I can fully see the psychedelia in the track and think that the conversation is spot on.

Also, agreed, a recording of a phone conversation is what it is and I think that it actually adds to the vibe of the track.

One thing that does stand out though, at least in my ears is that you tend to roll off the lower frequencies very aggressively to the point where there is no bottom end to speak of.
I think if you are going to make a track like this it needs to groove, and for that to work there needs to be a bass to work it.

Lo fi drums in themselves can be cool, it's just the frequencies that have been over cut, as a result you have some of the higher elements overpowering the percussion and bass.

I enjoyed this and it made me grin and recollect messed up weekends a plenty.

Cheers
Nem

Well, interpreting Rodri's somewhat cryptic feedback, I've submitted to the rule of three. Thanks for the honesty along with the positive feedback. Please, let me know if I got the balance right on this mix or, for that matter, over/under-compensated.

Thank you, Rodri Santos, Mr. Mystery, and Nemesis.

I've updated the track with your feedback, in mind.

@ Nem. You picked up on my exact philosophy for making music which is to try to make the music I want to listen to. I try not to let it be a justification for self-absorbed eccentricity and, truthfully, I'd rather have it appeal to a lot of people opposing just a few. Still, I don't ever want to make music which everyone else liked but I can't stand - if that makes any sense.

That really is the way it should be - I cannot stand threads that say "what should I do with this track?". Have some vision FFS!

Yes, I know, that has nothing to do with this thread, but damn...
