cmon guys, it's not rocket science.
LOL I was waiting for the gravy train comment. I really think Ford doesn’t know anything about budgeting or mathematics for that matter. Even the person in charge of the city transit selected by Ford (forgot his name) didn’t have a clue as to where the money for the subway’s will come from. All he said was that “well we will find the money from somewhere” lol. Toronto is going down under Ford sadly. AS I said before he won’t be able pass anything in the city hall since most of the councils had already agreed for the previous city transit system.
Like seriously the Federal government and the provincial government have already agreed to pay for the transit city and now Mr. Ford just comes in and wants to stop it all? Where is the logic in this?

not at all. i just want to hear some facts because i haven't heard any come from the ford camp yet. so if you have something that others haven't found or you can prove other expert's analysis wrong, i think we'd all like to hear it.
personally, i want a transit system that offers higher order transit to the major of the city. the sheppard extension offers it to a small minority along a corridor that realistically doesn't need it. from day one, sheppard was a mistake. why keep extending that mistake?

honestly, sometimes trying to get something out of jay is impossible because of his fundamental values. no matter what you say or what kind of facts you bring up, he'll either ignore them or make things up that sound plausible, but in fact are false.
gotta admire one thing though. he sticks to his guns no matter what. even if he's wrong.
it really reminds me of this video here.

Residents of Toronto desperately need accessible transit to get around our city. Facts prove that Light Rail vehicles - not subways - are inefficient, slow and cumbersome. Streetcars and LRVs cause congestion and create traffic backups that lead to increased emissions of greenhouse gasses. Replacing carbon-emitting buses with subways will also reduce emissions, leading to cleaner air to breathe and reduced healthcare costs.
Facts also show that subways cost far more and take much longer to build, which is why we should have started building them 30 years ago. However, it's not too late to start today.
Source? As of right now this is an unsubstantiated claim, and quite a significant one for that matter. I'm personally not that educated when it comes to the hard statistics as well as assessments of environmental and financial impact that the choice of public transportation medium entails. I would very much like to learn.
If you want to make claims such as these you need to support them with peer-reviewed academic studies pertaining to these assessments. If you fail to understand why a peer-review process would be vital to policy decisions in this situation, you really shouldn't be making any claims or arguments about this at all. I'm sure there are a ton out there. The way you've structured your argument implies that you're well read on the subject.

he is right about only one thing that can be substantiated by actual facts: subways cost a lot more than light rail.
how much more depends on the complexity of the soil and supporting structure required(tunneling, etc), but varies from 2 to 15 times as expensive as light rail.

as far as his other points, they're completely without substance.
and what is he going on about 'we should have built them 30 years ago.'
if he knew anything about subway development in toronto, he'd know we were building them 30 years ago.

I think there should be a subway that is extended from Kipling all the way across dundas to hurontario in Mississauga and another that goes across Eglinton from the airport to Scarborough. Another line should be places north and south along Hurontario from Dundas to Steeles.
Remember Hazel is not going to be mayor in Mississauga forever and the transit system WILL eventually be amalgamated into one giant transit provider. You heard it here first. It will be completely funded by the provincial government and the fuel tax which will be systematically increased over the next 5-10 years. This provincially funded body is called Metrolinx. Thats right, Go Transit is already merging the fare media into one system, TTC being the last provider to jump onboard. Once this happens the transit systems in the 905 will fully merge and eventually the TTC will follow suit. GTAT GTA Transit.
This whole termination of "transit city" is the biggest smoke screen that has been pulled in recent history. Ford and Miller are very aware of this, but all these agendas are all moot. Promising transit is an easy way to attain vote and appease the unions.
I'm sure you will all think off my rocker but as an employee in the industry I can tell you, this is definatly what is happening and is going to happen.

No. You see, these are perfect areas for LRT - mid-density suburban areas. Subways however, are not appropriate for places like Mississauga (at least in its current state), the existing transit ridership and density levels are simply too low to be an effective expenditure.
One thing I have to add - way too many (suburban) people have this sense of entitlement that there should be a subway to their doorstep. But thats not how it works...high order transit like subways can not efficient serve suburban sprawl. And if you choose to live in sprawl, you don't get a subway at your doorstep. If you want that, live in the city.
The most pressing area that needs expanded subway service is downtown & the inner-city (the DRL), not Mississauga or Vaughn or Sheppard.
