Because smoking enjoyable and since he's very likely not a mindless twit who thinks everything will be hunky dory in the afterlife, he lives his life by doing what brings him pleasure. If that pleasure brings him closer to an end then you know what, maybe he's just fine with that. He very likely figures the end is the end, so he might as well do what he likes now.

a little too grandiose for my liking. knowledge or lack there of doesn't impact your happiness as he suggested. you could think the world is flat and believe in god and still be happy. look at animals they seem to do fine without understanding the grand scheme of the universe. I would also like to point out shit is also made of star dust.

Yet our countrymen are rejecting these extraneous elements in an ever-increasing rate!

So much bullshit. We're all imbued with an amount of knowledge that seeks only to further itself- almost every human pursuit has been in correspondence with this, even if it is what we think is 'divine' knowledge. Ignorance is not happiness unless there is something severely deficient with you.

Is that terribly deviant from the essence of the original post's video?

And IGK, why don't you humour me. It would be the first time some humour came from you.

That chart is conspicuously missing a portion where System-J submits an immense essay on how Halo changed the face of console gaming shooters called Halo.
