Obvious, but would they take the time for that?

They take the time to come back everytime their threads get deleted and they are banned, (sometimes within minutes) so I don't see why not.

Well, if they are banned, need to register again and post five or more replies it will take more time. Has it been tested?

Not that I know of, but we have been discussing the spam issue once again in the mods section. Hopefully there will be a resolution soon.

Captcha isn't working as it should these days -- which is why there are so many spammers coming in from gmail accounts/etc. The best way to defeat them is to ask a question during registration that is not easily guessed/detected via the AI in these scripts. I've fiddled with stuff over the past couple of months and it's getting better...the problem is when they adjust their scripts to handle my changes.

That said, even as it stands now I block 100+ registrations a day and some trickle through. I changed the question yesterday and so far no 'automated' spammers have come in... I'll see how long it lasts but I think I'll need to set up 10 questions or so and have them automatically cycle through daily in order to really control it.
