Thank TL & ATX.
I have actually developed a consistent system now that I like. And the system is basically how I route and bus all my sounds. I just feel like I can put a mix together now w/out so many fundamental problems I was running into before.
I think really I just understand much better what a lot of the knobs do. Before I had an idea, but now I can actually predict how a sound will be altered before I even route it. For some reason theres just a much higher level of familiarity that I never had before. Even the midbass in this mix I listened to it solo'd, and realized the problem was not sound quality or presence. Its more than loud/groovy enough w/out being changed. So now instead of endlessly changing sounds, I'm really working more strategically in the mixer.
And I've already made some excellent progress with this track. Maybe I'll resubmit tommorow. ATX I'm using the same monitors tyas uses, although I guarantee that was no intented by any means. They were affordable (truths) so I got them a couple years back. I'm excited because theres so much room for improvement in my monitors, although I kinda feel like I know them now too.
I had actually realized before I submitted it that the midbass was lacking, its really a revision I've been working on for hours now. But I know what my main issue is, its really the levels and settings I'm using. Theres on problem sound specifically that I'm just gonna wind up replacing. I tried eqing it but its still stifling the mid bass. If I can't work out better settings, then I'm just gonna remove it completely. Its too similar to the actual mid bass, and the only way it seems to fit is by panning, which I won't do, so its likely getting scrapd.
