The only time I'd go for an AMD over an intel is if I'm planning to overclock it. Waste of time in this case though.

Is there any word of when the new sets will be out? I kinda need this computer soon.

Most places seem to just say Q1 2011 so who knows?

They may be quite expensive from the outset too. Perhaps the best solution right now would be the i7 950 which utilises the later 1366 chipset and would probably still offer you an upgrade path in a year or two if you need it. It'll probably offer you more CPU power than you'd realistically need for the forseeable though. I'm on an ancient Q9450 quad and can happily run 50-60 channel projects at less than 50% CPU load.

Maybe hold on for just a few more weeks if you can.

Apparently the Sandybridge CPUs are slaughtering the old 1136's

That new i5 2500k is rumoured to come in at about $215

Yep. You thought the old i7s were killing it? Holy shit balls, check out the brand new ones

A great review from one of my favourite sites.

If you do go with an old i7, get a 950 or a 970 if you can find it cheap. 950 is best bang for buck though.
