I never follow the Spanish league (or any other for that matter) but Messi sucked balls at the world cup.

No he didn't, did fail to score a goal but was often the most dangerous man on the pitch in the games he played. He suffered from having to play a role that didn't suit him in a very badly organized team.

I'm glad he won although I can see the case for Xavi as well. Really had to be either of them.

I think Messi could probably do everything Xavi and Iniesta can do - he's a Barca youth product and he's just as fluent in the art of passing and moving. He's also capable of providing fantastic assists, as he showed in the recent Clasico. Messi could play in midfield in those roles, but Xavi and Iniesta couldn't play his role.

You know as little about football as you do about most other things.

Messi's influence on one of the best team in history is incredible for a winger (now more a false nine).
It's hard for me to say that but even Zidane had not as many impact as Messi (on an entire season, Zidane scored 3 goals in 2 WC finals).

Since you're not even trying to argue that his performance at the WC was anywhere near impressive or deserving such an award I'm guessing that this is just your usual way of being a gigantic bitter twat that is unable to accept any differing opinion. Way to go!

Xavi and Iniesta are fantastic players but without a good team they can totally disappear. Messi on the other hand doesn't need anyone around him.

That's the difference.

You mean like you're not even trying to present an argument as to why Messi "sucked balls" at the World Cup? When I see the slightest bit of evidence that you're capable of analysing a football match, I'll provide a similarly worthwhile response.

Sure, just give me a few hours to re-watch all of his games and make detailed notes.

Meanwhile let me point out that I meant "sucked balls" for world class player standards (should be clear from the context) and post this video showing all of his goals and I believe also assists:

Do I have enough points to get that purple stuffed chicken over there?

Since he was in my Fantasy Football team I know very well that he had several assists at the World Cup, which speaks volumes about just how much attention you were paying. He also got a MOTM award, came up against some heavy man-marking, hit the post and was denied by some superb goalkeeping. This despite being part of a team managed by a buffoon and lacking any real tactics.

A lot of world class players underperformed at the World Cup, but most people who understand football will agree that Messi was extremely unfortunate not to score, and still highly influential in every game save the 4-0 mauling against Germany. The collective superstars of the England, France and Italian teams "sucked ass". Messi was merely unlucky.

Ding ding ding!

I'm loving Mourinho's approach to try and stir up shit in the Barcelona camp by saying that he "feels sorry" for Xavi. And if you don't watch or know anything about La Liga, you really are depriving yourself of the true nature of the beautiful game.
