It's pretty typical of Access to put out these limited edition synths. Their product cycle is usually several years, so I think they do it mostly to maintain a presence in the market and reignite interest in their products on occasion. It doesn't bother me, but it seems that a lot of people expect a new synth every year or something. With the amount of free OS updates with improvements and new features that they've given out for both the TI1 and TI2, I find it hard to complain. Most companies would slap on a couple of new features, give it a facelift, and market it as a new product or new version.

Marketing jargon. They're just saying that you have more options for adding random variation to the sound, thereby imitating the inconsistencies of analogue. Hey, I ain't gonna complain about more modulation sources.

I just think it ruins their credibility a bit is all to go on about "teh analogues"...

I see your point about releasing special editions, but I do think they'd be better off diversifying a bit and releasing new products to complement the virus.

Agreed. The same goes for every other synth manufacturer out there.

Agreed. As a TI owner, I bought mine when it was OS 2.0 (which had several new features over os 1.) Since then , they have added countless new FX, improvements to the mod matrix, improvements to pretty much everything in fact. Additional usb output, the Atomizer. I'm probably forgetting other stuff as well. All without any charge whatsoever.

I read people moan how the TI2 was not much of an improvement and now this new polar edition will probably get the same criticism. If you don't own a TI then what do you care if they release a completely new synth or continue to build on their existing one? If you buy it, it's a new synth as far as your concerned.

If you already own a TI, then be pleased that improvements and new features are being added all the time free of charge so there's no need to buy the newest access synth because they are keeping yours right up to date.

They could quite easily have made os 4.0 only available for the TI2 and no longer update the original TI, encouraging people to upgrade. I'm sure many companies would have done this but Access didn't.

I am happy with Access as well. as long as they keep there promise to deliver a flawles OS (which they never will ) i don't mind small quircks as a trade off for lifetime upgrades)

The mod matrix is very important to emulate certain analog synths

But it doesn't make a synth sound analogue. So its clearly just misleading marketing bullshit. The sound that most people associate with analogue is the minimoog/juno sound, and neither of those had a mod matrix.

Ever heard a Virus? DSP is totally different from your avg VSTi.

I know no VSTi that sounds as good as a Virus.
Even through USB, so fully in the digital domain, just like VSTi's. Sylenth sounds like a wett fart in a cola can compared to a TI

Are you trolling?

Because we all know that its teh graphics cards from 1999 which are used in the virus that give it its analogue warmth

couldn't care less if they've used a bears ass in there, it just sounds better, even without the grit of the D/A.

lol. graphic cards.. it's not a UAD-dongle :P they used proper DSPs since forever.

and yes, analog warmth is usually done with modulation. though it's hidden modulation in almost all synths.
