...That sounds more like you want to remix something. Just look for free remix compos on forums, google, etc. It's a good way to get practice when you lack inspiration.

And invest in that MIDI interface. Having an actual keyboard to even just noodle around on makes a world of difference from trying to click around in your DAW.

dear tranceaddict - please supply me with a hit record, that I can "edit"; as my need for validation outgrows my will and motivation to learn and understand. I am in fact a musical genius with unparalleled capacity for success, but I require additional inspiration in the form of a ready made track that just begs for my unique and special touch of brilliance.

See you on the other side of say.. 800-900 shitty loops, crushed dreams and spoiled ambitions - whereafter you will realize one of the following:

1. Making good music is hard
2. Effort is in fact a requirement
3. Maybe I should take up knitting?

This is what I call unnecessarily trolling.

Lol I started playing piano at 5, had my first synth at 14 and I'm 28 now man. Unless you spend a good 4 years, and I mean work at it 16-20 hours a day, their is just way too much to learn.

Putting the OP aside, a lot of noobs forget that a master painter such as Turner or Van Gough will have spent all thier youth learning to paint. Thousands of hours of toil.

Music is NO different - work that makes a lasting impact on the world is the culmination of thousands of hours of experience in the main.

The Beetles between them clocked up over 40,000 hours before they got a hit.

OP - my advice to you is to import a fave track of yours, and in minute detail spend a few months trying to match it. Your sound will be very different but in principle you want to be aiming to make each sounds as good as the pro track. The biggest issues new people have imo is understanding the massive effort that goes into each sound - a clap in a pro track is rarfely just a preset.

It is hard but with enough passion and roughly 10,000 hours (according to people such as BoomJinx) you will get there.
