I dunno. I always get asked for a verification number, mastercard security password (that I can't remember because it's asked at random)if I use a credit/debit card. Paypal is click, password, click, done.

Also, it's increasingly difficult to get hold of credit cards and even debit cards even when you're earning a decent salary (in Europe at least) so I have no idea how hard it would be for a 17 year old bum who was hungry for tracks but no means to buy apart from paypal etc.

weird, out here they give anyone a card, or a mortgage for that matter lol. For minors, you would need a parent cosign but to be honest, I would rather have my kid using a credit card I can track than just giving out cash.

Also Europe has more stringent security measures so maybe that is what is going on but I'm surprised you would not have to verify from paypal but have it flagged for itunes.

I don't even have to say yes and agree to a purpase. I just click a song and press buy.

Credit used to be that way here too, and probably will be again in a couple of years but certainly not at the moment.

I really don't see an issue with using paypal. then again i've yet to have any bad experiences with it.

the only properly streamlined site for me is Amazon, that's really click and buy rather than click, oh hang on, who were you again, are you sure, just incase can you re-fill in your details, and where were you born again? That's the usual rigamaroll.

I have noticed that many times DJs only play unreleased stuff on their podcast/radio show, which I have never understood. If during ASOT or something the song was available for d/L that second, I would think it would literly sell 100 times more. Obviously it's the DJ who 'benifits' though not really because 99% of the time it isn't a secret track or exclusive. But since most of them own labels too it doesn't make sense to me.

no idea. It is the same reason beatport caters to djs only. Basically, people are dumb.

Podcasts should have the actual track playing and a link to itunes to buy it. The whole promo thing is a thing of the past if you ask me. MArketing tactics that made sense 20 years ago.

In fact, a smart dj would have the playlist on a monitor somewhere so he can sell his or her tracks while djing. People are drunk and high and everyone has an iphone. You would at least get 1/5 of the crowd buying the hits. Now imagine at an event with 20 000 people. Make a track that has a breakdown turn the lights off, ask the crowd " let me see some lights" now nobody carries lighters so they use their iphone, then you play a ripping track, they all have their iphone on their hand, you have a wireless network setup so that people can just click the free internet which is just a portal to buy the track. done.

The fact is that dance music is just run by people that are not really that smart or attune to what is going on elsewhere.

In all seriousness, I see some visionary stuff in there. Now the next Armin van Buuren (in the sense of someone who is intelligent and business savy more than musically talented) needs to come along.

You can really tell at lack of vision, because there are hundreds of producers doing the radio show like AvB did. Not one of them has done something different.

lots of smart people around, just no capital. There is lots of money to be made but labels are run by idiots that think djing revenue is the only way to make money. I mean it makes sense. THe type of person that runs a label is typically not a business person and they usually just want to be part of the scene in some way. For them , it isn't about being smart. They want to feel important, make a bit of money and sleep with gogo girls. Or they are run by artists themselves who don't have the time to really do something about it.

Of course the money is only there for successful producers. 95% of the music on beatport is not sellable. In fact I think the surplus of absolute shit actually makes people spend less because they get frustrated. Who the fuck wants to go thru 100 tracks to find 1 track that is ok.

What they need to start doing is pushing backcatalogue because there is alot of old tracks that still sound just as current as alot of the new stuff, cutting about half the shit they have out there, and have some level of standard. Producers are also idiots. They have no concept of branding and sell shit under dj FizGeraldPatrick featuring Lacia remix by Eric BJ the queer. Who the fuck is going to buy that.

I think that is one of the reasons I left the dance scene. Just alot of dumb people all around. Like an army of morons that don't know how to dance. Might be fun if I wasn't 30 I guess. But even when I was 23, I always felt I was surrounded by retards. Pill popping rejects giving each other light shoes. Fucking ravers.

OF course everyone always asks, why don't you do something if you are so frikin smart and my answer is very simple and always the same. I hate anything that involves the pursuit of money, Way to stressful. I just do my thing and hope I get paid. Simple and neat. I have no dreams of conquest or global domination. Honestly, I want my biggest stress to be where the fuck i left my glasses. IF I can wiggle my way into a financial situation where that is all I have to worry about, boom.

Actually some variation of what he said would be a great idea. Accessibility is important. Making it easier to download something legally than illegally and people will out of convenience.
