not if your goal is to get a release or being "signed". i blame the labels. producers do as good as they can.

Yea the labels need to release more quality and less quantity. More tracks on your label means a better chance at making money I understand.

I don't think so. It is almost impossible to gain a following without people at the top telling people to like you. I think maybe Mango built a fanbase but can't really think of anyone else.

That is because my motto is 'If it sounds too compressed put more compressor on and see if it gets any better'

I only hear some severe clipped sampled drumloops, wouldn't call this a "track" yet

Only one hihat loop mate; the rest including clap and kick and ride are mine. Never said it was a track. It is a 'sample' of a work in progress. One I have spent 2 hours on.

I don't understand compression all that well but wouldn't dare start a thread about it...

Ok, try the following, which should get you in the right direction.

kick peaking @ -8db
mix clap to kick
mix hh loop to clap/kick
mix rest of percussion.
put all percussion on a subgroup
put a compressor on top med attack med release ratio 2:1 5db GR
mix bassline with kick (maybe sidechain bassline a bit to get "pump"
don't put anything on you master

tell me what's good or bad....

use the kick as reference, don't put it too loud (-8dbfs is a good startingpoint but even softer might be better) and keep using that kick as volume reference, build around the kick, maintaining headroom in your mix, preventing distortion. if oyu want it louder just turn the volume up instead. will sound a lot better and create headroom for further development in your track.

I'll give this a shot and repost the same clip with the changes! Thanks for giving a critism and offering a solution.
