what's cutting edge, i'm not familiar w/ the genre but the production technique seems nothing unique even for 2000.

the gate kick drums , there were no sample libraries at the time.
The triplet bass pattern
The form, going from a 12/8 feel to 4/4
The addition of bars upsetting the ubiquitous 8 bar phrase
The breakdown actually has movement and isn't predictable
The shokk tune has that sample that goes whuaw
The bass at the time was rather new. The way it is pitched to give it that character
The detuned saw port synth had not really been done before
the use of percussion that were actually processed to sound different than the standard TR sounds.
The syncopation and placement of sounds was rather ingenious.
Those raw aggressive sounds were not really common
The fact that the SHOKK tune was done with software.
I remember back in the day everyone was wondering how the hell it was done.
The more aggressive sound and combination of both rhythm and melody in a way that was quite unique.
Nobody was asking this about the tunes the OP posted. Everything is very evident.

nice to know i was listening to cutting edge trance when i was 13 by mad4brad standards.

not saying it was the only kind but there was a shift around 2000 with most of the innovations being made in the german hard trance scene.

in germany but nobody really knows who he is even to this day really. It is quite strange. He is one of the most sought after remixes but there seems to be this iron curtain west of germany regarding his exposure.
