i see what you mean, but adjusting your ears to ns10 would completely ruin your overall listening-pleasure trust me. everything will sound like you are under water after that, and with a constant high pitch screaming at you - your life would be ruined.

The HS80 could be a good option of you have a big room, but the JBLs are more flat (important) and better midrange. You should decide on a budget first really. Theres quite many options around the price of HS80 and the JBLs. forget about NS10 - they are history. Many are also happy with ADAM but i think they scream way too much for EDM. and have plastic bass.

It's all preference really. I'll go to a store and listen to both closely. I got a question then, why do so many producers have the NS-10M's in their studio? Do they have it there just for reference?

alot of old people use them because they are used to them and have worked on them forever. These people have no hearing left and need that extra treble to be able to hear hihats and shit. We do not. Some younger people also have them because they believe the hype and jumped the bandwagon. Also they might work in other types of music where the bass isnt that important but I cant seriously think of anyone wants to produce on these voluntarily. The fact that they are passive makes them even more useless. Seriously get up to date monitors man, theres so much goodness out there now. Decide for a budget first, and look for monitors 30% above your budget Give us the price and weŽll help you find a couple or three to test out in the shop. The more monitors you actually test the harder it will be to decide so try to limit yourself as much as possible before going out. I suggest as starter to test out both the JBL and HS80, you will see/hear the difference immediately, listen on vocals, synthleads etc and youll see why i recommend the JBL. HS80 has great bass though but that only works in bigger room. And just to know what your listening for try to listen to some expensive monitors too, like Focal, Dynaudio and Genelec. just to have a reference.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the JBL's as I have found a good deal for the pair. I'm still going to take a listen to the yamaha's, dynaudio, adam, genelec, and other brands, just to get an idea of their sound. Thanks for the help Sonicboom.
