The Air doesn't suck, it's just not made for you. It might suck for you but that doesn't make it suck. I think pickles suck because I think they're gross but that doesn't make them suck

And plus, who cares? They had a completely indeterminate amount of time before the actual contest itself to find the flaw. It doesn't matter how long it takes to execute it.

Plus, EVERYONE goes after the Mac because then they feel like they're somehow proving something.

I don't know what the first part of that has anything to do with anything especially since they actually won $15,000, but the Air does suck for anybody who wants to have anything more than a slim computer with zero computing power. You're better off getting a 64GB iPad.

Also, I don't think you noticed, but this was the first thing that was hacked at this conference. It's not like it was a conference dedicated to hacking Macs.

I love Macs, all of the computers I personally own are Macs, and this actually did prove something. All of the people who know nothing about computers who think "Oh I don't have to worry about security or viruses because I have a a Mac" are sorely mistaken.

So what's worse, a fanboy or a macfag?

You have me all wrong, I know exactly what the PWN2OWN contest is. You win the computer that you hack AND a monetary prize, he thought it was amusing that the prize was a Mac but he only won the Mac because it was the computer he chose to exploit.

And I ABSOLUTELY DID notice that it was the first computer to be hacked, and that this isn't a conference dedicated to hacking Macs, my point is that at even this specific conference hackers have a tendency to put all their focus on trying to find exploits in the Mac platform simply because of Apple's marketing, stating how the machines aren't riddled with viruses.

What I'm saying is that people FOUND the exploits before the conference even happened, all they had to do at the conference was actually execute the exploit. It literally means nothing; and regardless of that, everybody has always known that the reason Macs don't get viruses is because they're in the minority in terms of market share so nobody writes viruses for them. This is NOT new.

Uh, I didn't get mad at him for criticizing the Air. The Air isn't the only super slim notebook in it's category, there are tonnes of them, I don't think the super slim notebook in general is a stupid category because for people who need a full desktop OS but a machine that's as light as possible, it's perfect for them.

Apple has bad products, their Mac Mini is sorely outdated, the Mac Pro's GPU is stuck in the past, they made a mistake with the new nano...

Soo, I'm an Apple fanboy because I don't think the Air is horrible. Okkkkkkkay then.

And how about you do a quick Google search about the PWN2OWN conference. This isn't the first time the Mac has lost first.

Also the guy working on Chrome withdrew from the contest.... Most likely paid off by google

If you really care about a secure operating system, use OpenBSD, end of story. It is some of the most stable and well audited code on the planet, along with technologies which can stop even unknown exploits (ASLR, W^X, chroot many services by default, privilege seperation, overall hardened codebase).

Exactly, you shouldn't be using a consumer OS if you're really that pathetic at keeping yourself safe online.

ALSO, the OP's article STATES THIS:

"However, in reality, a lot of work was needed to carry out the attack. A three man team was required, as they needed to spend two weeks finding the exploit using a fuzzer and writing the code to create the hack."

It took 2 weeks to actually find and write the exploit. It doesn't matter how long it takes to actually execute it, that says nothing about OS security and everything about the speed of the hacker. And Apple's already released updates for Safari that patch the exploit.

This seriously DOES NOT mean anything.

It basically comes down to who has the best fuzzers... Google made an uber fuzzer and held a sploit over MS's head a couple of months ago when they took a year to even start patching it
