I did like the black lights and glo-sticks though...
I'm with you Scott... Maybe 10 years ago I would've checked it out but not now...
I think hardstyle is more my thing now. Everyone has to slow down a bit with age.

Pfft, farewell set? His most recent set that I know of was in October 2010. Last time I saw him spin was under a bridge in August '09.

try to convert me to the hardcore cause: what are some hardcore classics
Happy hardcore classics or old skool hardcore classics? Two different things, but if you mean happy hardcore/mid-late 90s hardcore, then here are a few of those instantly recognizable, cheesy, sing-a-longy classics:
And some lesser known but great tracks nonetheless:
As for old skool hardcore (completely different)...

Cheers, CMR! I love the sound of that older stuff that you posted. Is it true that that hardcore pre-dates drum and bass? I think I read/heard somewhere that Carl Craig made one of the first hardcore to d'n'b cross-over tunes with this:

That would be correct. Hardcore first appeared in 1990-91-ish coming out of techno, basically adding breakbeats and generally harder sounds to it, as well as the uplifting vocals. By '94 or so it had split into the happy hardcore sound and jungle (which is definitely the closer to the original hardcore), and by '97 jungle had turned into drum n bass (characterized mainly by simpler breakbeats).

In that case, I'll probably like jungle as well. Please can you post some vid's? Are there any classic hardcore/jungle mixes out there - like early essential mixes? Also, are there any events that play this kind of music in Toronto?

A few of my favourite tracks: (some blatantly jungle, others somewhere between jungle and hardcore)

Ohoho, yes! The Jungle/DnB scene has always been HUGE in Toronto. Now assuming you're looking for events focused on the more older sounds, there seem to be a fair amount of old skool jungle/techno/hardcore nights (not sure of anything coming up soon though), but even in the large parties with the big-name UK headliners that happen regularly at the Guv, you can still often hear a few older tracks being dropped (on that note, Andy C, Ed Rush & Optical, High Contrast, DJ Marky, and Chase & Status will all be playing within the next month - no idea if there will be any old stuff, but Mystical Influence is spinning at a number of them and he likes to drop that stuff in his sets).
