I wouldn't reach that far, eg 2012 bs, but fact is that 99% of life that existed on this wretched rock has been extinct. Its pretty arrogant to think that we're special. Continents shift, if Pangea, Ur, and countless other iterations of our continents are of any indication. Earth does what it does and were just along for the ride. Also, seismic acticivity is not entirely unpedictable, we are just not knowledgeable enough yet.

What I did learn from these events is that no government, no matter howw developed the country is, is prepared to deal with such disasters. It is all an illusion. Look at australia, japan, and good ol usa. When shit hits the fan, you can't count on these fat cunts to react in time. If this happened in usa, we'd see the ugly side of disaster real quick, if Katrina was of any indication.

So, count on yourself and plan accordingly, 2012 or not.

I don't get this Mayan thing. It's possible (although extremely unlikely) that the world will end in 2012, although we'd have to define "end of the world" more precisely... but why on Earth do people give it more credence because the fucking Mayan calender ends? What the fuck did the Mayans know that raises them above the level of other superstitious thousand-year-old civilisations?

yea good post. I mean look, I realize that the recent activity could be nothing more than business as usual and the fact is nowadays we just have the media and communication technologies to capture and broadcast it. My OP is really more than anything based on the theory that these past few events have acted as a trigger for one another, and sort of a chain reaction has gone off where a finale will be reached in the not-too-distant-future.

And if they did, you're suggesting they knew enough to predict the year of a massive seismic event thousands of years into the future, even though modern science doesn't have a clue it's going to happen the year before. BUT. Let's remove the subjects of the Mayans and 2012 then and have a discussion about what I mentioned a few posts up, that there has been a serious spike in seismic activity in the region in recent years and that there is possibly a chain reaction taking place at the moment that could result in global catastrophic events in the near future the likes of which we have not even come close to seeing as a race altogether?

But mind you, I do believe to an extent in astronomy/astrology and I believe they used such tools. I mean what goes on in space does affect what goes on on earth, with magnetic forces and whatnot. I mean it's not completely out of the question. They used science, not some kind of shamanistic ritual to determine these things. Egypt, Mesopotamian, Greece, they all used these means to predict events.
