In Firefox try going to Tools > Options > Advanced, then in the Network tab, click on settings and make sure you're either on Auto-detect, or no proxies(You might be on auto-detect, or a manually configured proxy if you're at work, in which case you'd need to go through the proxy in order to access the network).

That's all I can think of as to why only IE is working.

I went through all that, and after doing a fresh install, like igk said, it now works like a dream, or as much of a dream as you can have at 1.4ghz

Also, if you were concerned with your computer running sluggishly before, upgrading your OS will probably make that worse I haven't used Windows 7 a ton, but usually New OS = More RAM usage = Slower computer.

You also shouldn't use Firefox on a slower computer because Firefox, out of the 3 big browsers, is definitely the biggest memory hog.

Windows 7 is actually quite a bit more efficient than Vista. IMO, you'd be better off finding a copy of Win 7, formatting the disk, and doing a completely fresh install. It should be nice and zippy.

Doing what I have done has got it zippier than ever before, which is to have reinstalled it rather than 'upgraded' it per se. Seems much better without some of the bloatware that comes as standard on some of these machines.

@srussell- win7 is way better than vista. Loads faster, and is a marked improvement in nearly every way. Firefox runs nicely on my machine, and the processor is slowish but highly rated for efficiency & shit, and having grown up from stuffl ike a 286 & 386 at 16mhz cpu speed, 1.4ghz is a dream
