Regardless of how this election turns out, its a sure fire sign that our electoral system needs an overhaul big time and it needs to happen ASAP.

Four elections in seven years, 50% voter turnout... its all one huge bureaucratic money suck. More time is spent transitioning legalities between governments then actually getting things done. Regardless of your stance (left or right) the system is dated and inefficient.

The main sales pitch of this election should be the money being wasted on elections. Ironic.

Each election costs us 250-300million dollars. Over a billion dollars have been spent for nothing in return.

I can only hope that this induces some frustration, and citizens come out to vote.

Very well said! Agree 100%.
Whoever wins this election needs a majority. On the topic of money sucking, there is a big WHOOSH sound of money going down the drain with a minority govt. Nothing gets done. If we're going to go to an election this often, let it be because a majority government actually did something instead of just, wanted to do something. If that make any sense.

That poll has got to be the most work-intensive poll I've ever voted on.

Why not just make a regular-ass TA poll?

Nub.

i think the main problem about the last 3-4 elections is that there has not been any party leader that is inspirational/motivational/transformational/leader

none of the parties has a leader that is likeable enough to make people want to get off their asses and go vote.

It will never happen. Layton winning is probably the worst thing that could happen. IF he did, he would actually have to do some of the shit he says. He spew what ever promises he wants right now because he knows he will never win. All he hopes for is to be the party that can somewhat control a minority government.

Anybody else have any bright ideas?

I'd sooner vote for the Green party.

Reality check: Did opposition parties read the budget?

Reality check: Did opposition parties read the budget?

Published On Wed Mar 23 2011

The claim: “I am disappointed that they (opposition parties) did not take the time to read the budget before rushing to their conclusions,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Wednesday.

The facts: The Conservative government arranged briefings for each of the opposition parties on budget day, where the leaders, senior MPs and staff spent part of the afternoon reading the documents and reaching their conclusions.

Liberals: Deputy leader Ralph Goodale, finance critic Scott Brison and transport critic John McCallum along with the party policy team reviewed the budget in a private room at the Government Conference Centre from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Liberal team went to Michael Ignatieff’s office to brief him at 3 p.m.

NDP: Deputy leader and finance critic Thomas Mulcair and deputy finance critic Chris Charlton reviewed the budget along with policy and communications staff from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in a private room in the Promenade Building on Sparks St. NDP Leader Jack Layton arrived at 2 p.m. and spent the next two hours reading the budget and being briefed by his staff in order to make his final decision. Layton did not speak to the media until Finance Minister Jim Flaherty had delivered his entire speech and tabled the document to the House of Commons, noted Kathleen Monk, director of communications for Layton.

Verdict: False

Dude if the budget had've been perfect, they STILL would've called for an election...

They want their shot at power and will do anything to get it...
