Why not for EDM productions?

The current reaper 4 (alpha) has impressive midi improvements. It's a big difference between 3 and 4 for edm producers.

Because EDM production, namely Trance, typically doesn't involve recording instruments. Reaper is made for recording layers of guitar, drums, bass, and vocal tracks. Most EDM is pure midi with VSTs, no recorded instruments. I'm sure you can use reaper for EDM, but DAWs like Reason or FL are much better suited for it.

thecYrus is saying Reaper has much improved midi with the newer versions. Might be worth a try if that's the case. Sounds like it comes with no vsts or loops (samples), according to Senator Clay Davis. That right there tells me it's not EDM friendly, unless they changed that.

The fact that it doesn't include a lot of content doesn't mean its not an EDM oriented DAW. Ableton is (arguably) the most EDM oriented DAW out there, but the loops it comes with aren't really set up for EDM, and I've never used them in a production.

Some people just prefer to organise their own samples and VSTs, and take a more modular approach. This whole idea that DAWs should even include content is a relatively recent thing, and I don't neccesarily agree with it.

You should start with a hard program. Most of them are deliberately laid out in an easy to use way adn it'll be better for your learning in the long run. Cut down "beginner" progs are rubbish IMO.

Some people might have a problem with that but I prefer it. I think a good DAW should stand alone, you buy it for its abilities as a DAW, not as a package of loops. I see a lot of companies trying to sell gear by adding more effects, VSTs and loops these days, and I think it's just to cover for their lack of innovation in the core product. You'd be much better off getting reaper and a few well chosen sample libraries adn instruments than you would be getting cubase with its included content.

i dont agree

thats exactly what i love about Reason, Ableton and Logic, all the included loops, wavs, instruments etc etc. Without it I would have never have bought any of it as a pure sequencer without all that is just, yeah Reaper which is free (or almost).

Each to his own, if you have alot of favorite VSTs and sample CDs etc etc already then sure go ahead use Reaper, it will work out great. In the end its just where you want to put your money. I like all in one solutions, mostly for backup and compatibility reasons.

But Reaper is awesome, i recommend it for example over Reason.

I just think those general sample libraries included with DAWs are worthless compared to a good specialised sample library you can buy.

Ask storteller - it's his main DAW and knows just about everything there is to on it.

P.s. Wrong forum

I'm soo confused at this thread and its all cause of this statement. Are u guys talking about Cockos Reaper or a tracker called Reaper? and if it is a tracker then, where is it, any links? I looked all over and cannot find a tracker called Reaper.

No, I thought he was talking about the tracker Renoise.

Reaper is that daw which used to be mainly for recording, but apparently in recent years they've added more midi support etc to make it EDM friendly.
