I love trance but most ppl dont. It isnt club friendly... youd lose half the crowd during every breakdown and have a lot of ppl standing there looking bored

Fuck me man... grow some balls.. no one likes trance... and its not club friendly.. are you drunk... i take it you dont go clubbing? U really need to visit IBIZA... maybe u meant house party friendly? i wonder were AVB..tiesto..PVD would be with your attidude.. if you dont play the music you love u will...NEVER make it as a dj. the top three or even 5djs choosen by mioxmag are trance djs.. people love trance.. u cant play instrumental trance at a house party maybe... but stuff with vocals will get any party going.

Play ure sound and if people dont like it go to another venue... dont play what other people want u to play cau you will never find ure style... major advice is dont do a live gig unless you are up to it cau it is a reflection on you...but u gotta be original.. i simply never play a track i wouldnt take to a desert island... u gotta have that love for the tracks you play..it means that every sec you are playing u are fucking buzzing

you play these kinda tunes and the girls will love u.. p.s if you need more killer party tracks let me know.. until the party there is no time for sleep... plan a set and practise until you cant fuking see you cant stand up... that the advice i got of tiesto!!!!!!!!

play what you want to play is an advice of someone who hasn't been djing or at least that didn't start from the ground, before playing in the biggest clubs you have to play in the smallest and dirtiest ones.

The process is like:

-You play commercial house in a small club
-You get promoted to play house on that same club but at late hours
-You attract interest of a bigger club
-You get established in a big club and can start doing your thing
After that... who knows, you can be the next tiesto or you can be selling your cdjs in months.

If you play trance in a small club where people aren't used to it you are going to suck a lot, maybe you'll have a trance fan tearing in the middle of the dancefloor hands up but you'll get a lot of complaints, in return maybe that guy may approach to the booth and say "FUck Armin van Buuren, now i love you!!"

(I swear this happened to me, it was supposedly a private party so i wasn't risking my job with this so i got the clear idea that i had to play shit but also that i could drop some good music if i felt like. Well everytime i played good music i had a swarm of girls surrounding me (2 of my friends got laid that night thanks to me, i'm god for them since then) and a lot of boys started to ask for similar music (mostly Tiësto classics which i love so wasn't a problem at all for me)

That night apart from being hell funny (i enjoyed a lot how pissed where the girls while the boys well having great fun with the trance classics, not to mention that more than a half of a bottle of Ballantines disappeared) showed the reality of live gigs:

-You have to play for the girls because girls will dance and that would make boys horny.
-Girls only like shit, playing something out of the top 40 is dangerous.
-Play for the girls to get laid.

It's simple this is the first step, when you play from 4am to 7am you can play whatever you want, even trance could be welcome but think that this is what you'll find. I'm sure all the djs have a similar story.

I am primarily interested in trance, though my first love is hip-hop, and i like to spin a variety of genres including dubstep and house against a trance backdrop.
So this house party has a Skins rave party theme (the uk tv show, dont ask, the girls throwing the party are fans). trance isnt big at all here so i dont think i should just jump right into a trance set, so i told them id do a mix of dubstep, house, and trance.
anyone got any tips on getting the crowd into the trance vibe?

Use the skins angle.

Just say it's off skins official sound track episode 4 series 3.

That'll shut them up.

Fuck women suck at music.

Here in Miami electronic is music is so diverse, you can get away with anything as long as you stay on beat, not too many breakdowns. No hands in the air as your first or second song and you'll be fine
