They aren't.
Many lesbian women tend to have more "straight male" tendencies in regards to caring about how they look, as in... they probably don't. Ever noticed women feel the opposite about gay men? You always here "All the hot ones are gay." That's because gay men generally have more effeminate tendencies in that regard and spend more time on their appearance.
Straight girls tend to care a lot about their appearance and pretty much put a lot of work into convincing guys that they're beautiful. It's amazing what a little makeup and an outfit can do, but straight guys seem to (misguidedly) think that women want manly men who don't care what they look like and that's why there are so many buttugly straight guys.
If these "butch lesbians" were to spend as much time in front of the mirror as these straight girls you'd probably eat your words.

Well, one, love is irrational, and two, she's still a woman. I mean if she got breast removal and testosterone injections she's probably doesn't consider herself a lesbian, she might consider herself a straight man and be transgendered and the girl she's in love with might even consider herself a straight woman.
