the serious problem is that people are so gullible, they actually think by clicking "unsubscribe", that they will be unsubscribed.
the reality, kids, is that more often than not, that subscribes you.
most of those spam emails, you notice how they go to a random address like a random yahoo address if you are yahoo, etc. they dont come specifically to your email address. i mean, think about it. you go to a website, and then enter in your email. guess what? now they have your specific email that they can send all the spam they want to.
i was this stupid once, and did that. i went from getting one email every week to about 10 a DAY... all because i was stupid and did that unsubscribe thing, then realized how much of a dumbass i was. its easy to see once you think about it.
and the reality is, it wont stop. nothing you will do will do jack shit. your only option now is to learn from your mistake, and get a new email address. filters might help with some, but i still get a shitload of spam... so soon ill get a new email address too and be smarter. |
Word. Don't try to fight it, you can't win.
1. Almost every company - even respectable ones - will sell your address for money.
2. I'm pretty confident that when you hit that unsubscribe button it removes you from that company's mailing list and transfers your address to the 'to-be-sold-to-other-companies' list straight away.
3. Never use your ISP email account on the web. I have a mail account opened especially for spam.
And if you're looking for some way to express your feelings about it, check out those hilarious spam replies pages out there...
