WOW, where do I start with this?
I have a son, 15 yrs old. as a baby, he ate pretty much anything. as a toddler, he started pushing things away. after age 5, he became picky. now a bit of info on him...he had/has sensitive hearing(fireworks sounds were too much for him and he would cry it hurt his ears) so I think his taste buds are just as sensitive. for him, it is about texture first, taste second. we have been trying to change his ways telling him to try a couple bites of something. he'll try it and think about it and say he either didnt like it, will try again next time or he liked it(rarely happens). we have been telling him that if he takes a girl out, eating spaghetti or quesadillas isnt going to impress her and eating off the kids menu will make him look stupid.
now as for my hubby, he is less picky but is scared to try new things and if we go to a new place, he will find something that is the most basic of things...no werid veggies or weird sauce. he is a meat and potatoes kinda guy for the most part.
do you know how much it sucks having 2 people like that to cook for when I was brought up trying anything and everything?! I love food and I have to bring myself down to their level. when we go out, I go for plates with flavor and meats I dont cook(pork, lamb, veal, lengua, etc...). life is too short to eat bland food. there is such delicious food out there. being allergic to food is one thing but choosing not to eat it cuz youre too scared to try it is another. try things, you might like it...worst case, you dont but give food a chance!
