Why isn't anyone buying the best HDDs on the market: WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR SPECIAL EDITION WITH 8 MB CACHE? They have a 200 GB 7200 RPM drive coming out later this year (Oct./Nov. 2002)! I'm getting the 120 GB drive when the 200 comes out because price will be better and if I REALLY NEED 200+ GB of storage, I would just get another 120 GB drive. What's wrong with that?

Yea, new computer's seriously kick ass, we just got a new puter inplace of our old AMD300mhz, this beast is:
AMD AthlonXP 1800
MSI KT3 Ultra Mobo
128meg MSI Geforce4 Ti4200 3D Card
512mg PC2700 Samsung Ram
2x80gig Seagate 7200rpm HD's (Running a RAID 0 Config)
6.1 Soundcard in the mobo
48/12/48 Lite-On Burner
I cant believe how fast it is.. lol and Ali92, the reason i didn't get the 8meg Cached WD Hard drive, was the price!! the Seagates were AUS$195 each, and the WD 120gig was AUS$410, some ppl cant afford superduper computers, heheh :P
Ciao

heh...i think the 120gxps are ok
...it's the notorious 75gxps which bombed out big time
(IBM recommended running time 3hrs/day LOL!!!)
funnily enough i've had one running for a while now with no problems...just to be safe tho, also have an 80mm fan running directly onto the drive 24/7
...well did have one major failure, but that was my fault - moving the hd around *at the same time* windows was installing update LOL!!!
...learnt my lesson there!!!

yeah...as Pointy says...for an 80g 7200rpm WD 8mb cache, u can get 2x 80g 7200rpm seagate 2mb cache...plus enough money for a round at the pub
sure 8mb cache is quick...but screw the price...anyhow, just wait until serialATA becomes the norm...blow ALL current drives outta the water
